Dan Balz has a new book coming out on the 2012 election, and in it, he apparently reports that, in the summer of 2011, numerous top business leaders, donors, and GOP elder statesman (including GW Bush!) lobbied Christie to run for the 2012 GOP nomination, apparently on the basis that he was the party's best hope of beating Obama:

The book also claims that Christie threatened to drop an f-bomb on live TV if he didn't get an intro video for himself before giving his keynote address at the RNC:

Not surprising.  I think the Republican elder statesmen were 100% right that Christie was their best chance to beat Obama.

But, also, dear lordy, Dubya, Kissinger, David Koch & Ken Langone, wow!  That's practically the legion of doom.  They should have gotten Lex Luthor and the Riddler to call too.  What a sad comment on the Republican party that those are the names mentioned.

Good for them. Christie would've made a fine choice and the hurricane would have helped him instead of Obama. My vote would still have likely been with Romney though. I'd look more into the source though. If only his name was Harry Balz.
