My gut says Christie improves his standing among Republicans and wins, similar to McCain in 2008.

I guess Christie, Rubio, or Walker (not necessarily in that order).  Paul probably belongs in the same category, though I really think he's going to have to compromise more than he already has with party elites on foreign policy and civil liberties if he's going to win the nomination.  It's hard to say how likely he is to do that.

I could definitely see the Republican nomination coming down to Christie vs. Paul, if both of them ran.

Depends who runs. Christie if there's a bloody RW primary, a Cheesehead or Rubio if there isn't. Gun to my head: Scott Walker.

Gut: Rand Paul.

He'll lose, but that loss will be a Goldwater-esque moment for the GOP.

Christie/Rubio or Rubio/Christie...

That's if the GOP becomes a LITTLE more moderate in 2016.

Rubio or Cruz

Many Republicans think they can win the Hispanic vote just by having a Hispanic candidate.

Just like how Michael Steele at RNC won back the African-American vote, and Sarah Palin solidified the woman vote.

I still have a gut feeling Ryan wins both the primary and the presidency.

I have a gut feeling that none of these people will be the nominee, many will run but fizzle out early on, perhaps even before the Iowa caucus (see: John Edwards). I bet that in 2017 we'll look at all of the threads and laugh at how far off we were.

For whatever reason another Bush-Clinton race feels inevitable to me.

Christie's the likeliest, because he's the most notable of the moderate options.

Rand Paul, Ted Cruz, Marco Rubio, Scott Walker and Paul Ryan all have to compete with one another. It's possible that one will quickly outperform the others, and sow up the nomination, but as we don't know which of them it would be, their individual chances of such a win are fairly low.

Christie, for the same reason as Romney in 2012. He's avoided any major gaffes or scandals, and will probably come off as the most electable. I can see a repeat of 2012, with the primary voters simply running out of anti-Christie candidates during the primary.

I'd be curious to know if you would even support him if he were to win the primary. Tongue

I still think Christie. However, if he does implode because he really can't get past the base or his temper gets him in trouble, then I think Walker could be a possibly. Out of the conservative candidates, I think he's the one who could best appeal to the moderates and independents. Which I think one of those guys will need in order to break out.

I would probably vote for him, but without much enthusiasm at all. Thankfully he's not as radical as his father, whom I despise.

As of right now, I think Paul would win the nomination to be honest. There are numerous reason why he would run into trouble though over the next two years and some change though.

If the Republicans grow up and realize they can't win with only the radical right, they go with Christie.
