...well, she's at the 9 hour mark, and the goal is for State Sen. Wendy Davis of Texas to last four more hours until the special session expires so that the Texas Senate does not pass the sorts of abortion restrictions that have been de rigueur among Republicans lately.

You can see a livestream of her talking here, and read more here.

She's not allowed to take any breaks, of any duration, and cannot deviate from the topic of abortion, so apparently people have been sending her abortion-related stuff to read from the floor.

Why did they do away with this in the US Senate, again?!

I'm not sure I'm with her on the substance of filibuster, but I've always loved Wendy Davis.

Neat.  Is she allowed to yield her time to other senators?

Can't eat, drink, or go the bathroom... and she's been at this since 11 AM?

Texas filibuster rules are tough. Davis isn't allowed to sit, or even lean heavily.

Her colleagues are allowed to ask her long-winded questions to help her rest her voice, but are not allowed to step in for her.

What a hero.

She has a great life story too. IIRC, she was working at a fast food place as a single mother, then enrolled in community college, transfered to college, and then was admitted to and graduated from Harvard Law School. Then she defeated a long-time Republican incumbent in 2008.

Wow.  I wish the US Senate would adopt Texas filibuster rules.

I'm kind of surprised Democrats are even allowed to filibuster bills in the TX Senate.  Don't the pubs have a supermajority in that chamber?

I suspect she is getting some Depends-able assistance.

They have 19 of the 31 seats.

She's supposedly been given her "third strike", so now they're deciding who decides whether her filibuster is over?

Very impressive, I hope she has a future in higher office, even though it's Texas.

Damn. I didn't even think that this would be an option.  Very happy to see that Texas still has some decent politicians left.

For the past several minutes, the audience is making a bunch of noise to prevent a roll call vote (?)

The Senate is clearly not in order... a mockery of Parliamentary procedure.

It was a mockery of parliamentary procedure for Dewhurst to rule that it was a violation by Davis to get her back brace adjusted and for mentioning sonograms while talking about a bill dealing with abortions.

I didn't see either.  The former sounds like there could be a valid reason behind it, but the latter I agree with you.
