Who is it?

It sounds like Snowstalker's slowly becoming a fascist, and I can sorta see Vosem turning into a lefty.

When Vosem grows up a little, I can see him becoming a moderate lefty at the very least.  Isn't libertarianism something most people grow out of when they realize its well-intentioned but ultimately futile objectives?

Ron Paul has kept his Libertarian views for forty something years. Keep in mind, most people abandon their Libertarian views when they get into trouble and want somebody else to cover for them. The fact that Ron Paul has kept his views while remaining a doctor says something.

JerryArkansas, WalterMitty, and HPJ (I'd be curious to see him back in six months).

I think Snowstalker is showing some beginning signs of a potential anarcho-communist, which from there would have the potential to evolve any number of ways, including libertarianism.

That aside, the forum youngin's all are prime candidates for random massive swings in their political beliefs. Ex: 20rp12, once a libertarian, then a moderate GOPer, now a borderline socialist. Nothing wrong with that as people change as they grow, and I predict there may in fact be a communist phase down the road before settling down as a center-left indie who votes straight ticket Dem.

Feeblepizza is now a hardcore leftist.

I'm honoured to be one of the prime examples Cheesy

Others: Snowstalker will likely end up a moderate leftist. I think Duke might abandon the GOP eventually, too.

Matt from Vermont because when you live in vermont, it's probably easy to become a true socialist because of persuasion Tongue.

Or, you know, they pick up a history book and realize that we used to do a lot of things the way that Libertarians say we should do them, and that it didn't work out so well.

But enough of my derailing the thread. I fully expect Matt from VT, Vosem, and JerryArkansas to become Democrats at some point, while Snowstalker might very well become a kind of third positionist Republican somewhere down the line. And RP will probably become a jaded Marxist in college.

JerryArkansas, WalterMitty, and HPJ (I'd be curious to see him back in six months).

Why waltermitty? He's a grown man who has been pretty consistent throughout the decade or so he's been around.

Right.  walter is a mixed bag.....he is a big Dubya/Cheney supporter on certain things, bashes Obama routinely, has a jihad against tobacco and for doing something about climate change....etc.  So he's just a mish mash as it is, which might lead someone to view it as changing between left and right.

Yea he's very unique in his views (which reminds me of my own "ideology" I suppose) but he's never changed as far as I can remember.

Oh, and I concur on HPJ, if/when he returns. He was a right-winger pretending to be a moderate when he was here; when he gets back I expect him to have fully embraced conservatism/libertarianism.

I humbly submit my nomination.

I'm currently registered as an unaffiliated voter, but in the past I've been a registered Republican as well as a registered Democrat.  I am probably one of the few posters who has voted at least once for a Libertarian and for a Socialist for Governor.  For Senator, I have voted for Green party members and for Libertarians, and for everything in-between.  For president I supported Dukakis in '88, I supported Clinton both times in the 90s, Nader in 2000, Bush in 2004, Obama in 2008, and Romney in 2012.  I may vote for you today, and tomorrow begin campaigning for your next opponent.  You can never really count on my support--politically, I mean.  Morally, I'm solid.  Like a rock.  I'll bail you out of jail and cover your back from the foxhole.  I never welch on a bet or refuse to pay my bills.  But politically, I'm very fickle.

Your partisan affiliations may be fickle angus, but just how vacillating are you in your opinions about the issues that really matter out there in the public square? I mean, are you oriented towards fiscal rectitude on Monday, and consigning ensuing generations to the functional equivalent of debtor's prison, or the US currency to wall paper, on Tuesday?  Homophobic on Wednesday, and a SSM advocate on Thursday?  In favor of free markets on Friday (subject to intelligent internalization of non price internalized externalities), and for protectionism and state ownership and/or direction of how resources are allocated via means other than the price system, on Saturday? And on Sunday, do you think God should be more allowed in the public square prior to going to church, but contrarian that you are, after having gone, you become a big fan of  Madalyn Murray O'Hair?  And each leap year on Feb 29, do you switch from being an uber neocon, to a fan of Ron Paul's foreign policy, and then back again 4 years hence?

My suspicion, is that your nomination is DOA.  Tongue

It's always a doubletake when I read that.  I can't help thinking of S&M.

Yes, I suppose all that is true.  I've had, more or less, the same opinions about the important issues of the day over time, and some of them can probably be described as left and some as right, and the relative importance of the issues changes, but my general orientation probably doesn't.

Funny you mention Ron Paul.  In the 2008 primaries selectsmart.com political candidate quiz, I had equal affinity for Ron Paul and Barack Obama, at about 68% each.  They were my top two.  It's rare that any candidate agrees with me over half the time.  I ended up supporting Ron Paul in the primary (Iowa Caucus January '08) and Obama in the general (November '08).  I still respect them both equally, but less, in both cases, than I did in the summer of 2008, the Summer of Love.

Owing to Torie's considered and wise remarks, I have decided to respectfully withdraw my nomination.  I shall not seek, nor will I accept, any nomination for further consideration of the coveted and dubious distinction of Poster Most Likely to Change, Politically.

Thank you, and God Bless America.

I've always pictured the typical libertarian as an upper-middle class white guy in his late early fifties.

Any of the teenage libertarians. Most of them will be liberals in a few years, while a smaller number will be conservatives.
