This has been discussed in the Canada megathread since 10 days ago shortly after the FQS announced its ban, tho of course it hasn't been the sole item of discussion.

Quebec is very European in its political attitudes. It exudes a certain "xenophobic liberalism". This is in contrast to the rest of Canada, which is more "tolerant conservative".

It's any wonder why visible minorities even run for the PQ/BQ, but they do. The BQ interim leader after the 2011 election was Haitian.
