You'd think he'd have the good sense not to opine on this topic, but I guess not:

Is "too masculine" a euphemism for "willing to fight back"?

You can certainly argue that about what's "too masculine" but women are certainly more masculine than 40 years ago.

He also says they're too old and aren't drugged enough.

Some things never change. Conservatives think they can win by identifying those things that give women more power and independence as "masculine," and hence should be somehow off limits to women. So of course birth control is the example he goes to.

Whats masculine about her? Girly facial features, red lips, plucked eyebrows, dyed hair, jewellery. She is using a lot of the traditional feminine accessories.

Are we actually going to use terms like "masculine" and "feminine" at face value, without adding the caveats that should be obvious to all by the 21st century? Masculinity and feminity are social constructs, which reflect the expectation society has toward men and women respectively. They do not actually have an inherent link to a person's sex.

Wow, I could almost confuse her with a lad or describe her as masculine if I were blind.

If anything I reckon women today are more concerned with/oppressed by their appearance than they were in 1973 (I doubt those women in short shorts, knee socks and pigtails posted above are representative). Although obviously without the need to justify themselves to this cretin.

It's a shame that girls these days are masculine just so that Polanski will leave them alone. Tongue

This thread is seriously lacking the misogynists that usually fly their flags of hate proudly in Polanski threads.

I supported Polanski purely on jurisprudential grounds; I have no strong opinions about 'femininity' and 'masculinity'.

I neither decry nor applaud this quotation - the man has his personal taste, as do each and all.  Nothing more than that.

The last many decades people have grown in stature both men, women and children, and as such I understand polanski's POV, as he now when he drug and rape 13 year old girls need the amount of drugs he needed to drug a 15 year old girl in the seventies. I think we can all feel his sorrow.

I totally agree that we can choose one or two pictures of women as representative of 50% of humanity for an entire period of time.

I was going to say something like that. And also something like what Ingemann said. So I'll just mention my support of those posts. Tongue

Also, Antonio is is correct in that what we think of as feminine or masculine can vary a lot over time.

That's missing the humor in both mine and David's pick of "typical" women. But you are not the only one to do that.

I don't know who David is but I'll grant that my expectations may sometimes be a bit too low on forumites and their sense of humour. Tongue
