If that isn't "Belief Makes You Stupid" I don't know what is.

And what's worse is that this is just scientists named Steve or a variant. 99.99999999999999999999999999999999999999999% of scientists think that Belief Makes You Stupid.

I think questions of science education deserve a type of discourse somewhat different than repeated and ill-explained references to the same TV Tropes article, but that's just me.

Nothing he said here is incorrect. Evolution is vital to understanding modern biology, is well supported by evidence, and is a unifying principle for the field. The various creation science ideas are not scientifically supported and rely on pseudoscientific methods that do not pass peer-review, and thus have no place in science classes. If facts make you feel insulted, then that's your problem.

Bullsh*t, there are enough christian scientists to make this figure untrue, and what he says has nothing to do with faith, if you say that gravity doesn't exist because it doesn't appear in the holy text of your choice, you are stupid. For biologists, same thing with the theory of evolution, and the fact that it stomps on your holy text a little bit more is meaningless, I'm not saying that random cristain is stupid because he believes in God, but if I gave him a physics test, he would answer on question of what is in the field of science, if he answers based on what is in the bible, he is stupid in the field of physics.

I'm wondering what exactly provoked this thread... If it's that Jay Gould is still the public intellectual face of evolutionary theory, well... that's rather interesting considering everything.

Anyway, while certainly one of the good guys I don't really find him that convincing in regards to his ideas about the evolution of culture. Evolutionary Biologists didn't think he was all that either in regards to evolution although I'm not qualified enough to make any further comment.

Mismeasure of Man is a book that should be read by everyone.

His books are very informative and entertaining (which ain't easy).  Even after reading several of them, I have no trouble believing in a higher power.

Except that the conclusion of the evidence is that evolution is true, and that is the point of that statement, with no reference to Christianity (which happens to be highly compatible with evolution anyway, though this point is lost on many of its adherents). There is no real need to drag belief into it, unless you believe that belief justifies the denial of rational discourse and the subjection of others to said denial.
