President or Premier of Russia or the Soviet Union -  not exactly easy for me.  Whoever heard of Nikolai Podgorny or Alexei Kosygin?  Now General Secretary of the Communist Party was easy, Leonid Brezhnev or almost was, since when I was born the office was called First Secretary.

Conversely, Senior U.S. Senator of Tennessee was absurdly easy for me:  Al Gore Sr.

April of 91... well let me think.

Easy(er):

President of the USA - Bush senior
Vice President of the USA - Quayle
Monarch of the UK and other realms of the Commonwealth - Elizabeth II
Prime Minister of the UK - John Major
President or Premier of Russia or the Soviet Union - Gorbatjov
President of France - Mitterand
Pope of the Catholic Church - John Paul II

Somewhat more difficult:

Speaker of the US House of Representatives - Errmm... That dude from Washington
Majority Leader of the US Senate - Errmm...
Prime Minister of Canada - Mulrony
Prime Minister of Australia - Hrmm

Considerably trickier:

Governor of Massachusetts - Dukakis... maybe <.<
Governor of Illinois -
UK Chancellor of the Exchequer - Heseltine? Was he ever chancellor?
UK Leader of the Opposition - Niel Kinnock
Most recent Best Picture Oscar winner - Silence of the lambs
Most recent Nobel Peace Prize laureate - No idea

Very tough:

Senior U.S. Senator of Tennessee - Al Gore?
Junior U.S. Senator of Vermont - No idea
Leader of the Scottish National Party - No idea
Most recent Best Supporting Actor Oscar winner - No idea
Most recent Nobel laureate in Physics - No idea either
