Police officers carry guns in Canada despite heavy-handed restrictions on firearms for the general populace. Canada's crime rates are exceptionally low.

The thing is, there is a huge black market for weapons that surely must exist in Atlasia with all gun restrictions we've got. If you've got a black market for weapons, it makes it more likely that the people who have guns actually have them to commit crimes. In that scenario, wouldn't it be prudent to give police officers the ability to legally defend themselves from illegal guns? I would think so...

I don't want to argue with you because we're arguing the same thing, but I'd just add that gun culture shouldn't be the pivot point here. There's no American-style gun culture in Canada (which makes it infuriating to debate American gun laws with a bunch of Torontonian idealists, but I digress), yet the undermarket for guns is still there. If you really wanted to commit crime with a gun in Canada, you could get your hands on a gun.

Therein lies the problem. Good people don't have guns and bad people still do. The only good people who do carry weapons in the street are police officers. I can't imagine the world of trouble we'd be in if these men and women were left unarmed. That's the reality we'd be dealing with in Atlasia too.

But yes, there'd probably be some lunatics out there who'd want to kill you. Except under TNF's proposal, your police escorts would be unable to do anything about it.

Also, I wonder if you actually understand why it is that people are up in arms. That would be a fun one to see you answer.

None of this falls within the purview of the PPT.

JCL, this has nothing to do with anything. Why are you taking the bait?
