After a tumultuous primary race and a first ballot victory at the DNC, Frank Church has emerged alive and still in control of the party. The challenge from Kennedy has thus made him have to redouble his efforts on large urban and rust belt states. Meanwhile, the Republicans have nominated a member from their conservative wing for the first time since 1948. Ronald Reagan, former Governor of California, is running on a platform of "bold colors, not pale pastels" in contrast to earlier Republican attempts merely to provide a more moderate alternative to Democrats. This includes a renewed effort to beat the Soviets in the Cold War instead of the current doctrine of detente and co-existence, and an economic platform involving tax cuts and lowering of the federal deficit. Anderson, enraged at the Republicans' turn to the right, has chosen to run as an independent. Among other third party choices are the Libertarians and the Citizens Party.

Guys, if we reelect Church he'll die in early 1984, so we can have 2-and-a-bit terms of President Bayh!

How did I miss the GOP runoff?

Anyway, Reagan, although tempted by Anderson (as I would have been in the RL election.)

Tough one. I'm gonna wait and see how it goes, if it looks like Church/Birch has a solid lead I'll vote for Commoner.
