Fair point, and Islamism is a very clear break with their tradition as well. But then Western modernity is degenerated. The Nazis constructed their modernism as a mishmash of romanticism, Drang nach Osten, mysticism, neo-paganism etc. It was modern, but anti-rational, anti Enlightenment, anti Modernist art (which is a big part of modernity for me).

Antisemitism? Islam is not antisemitic. Actually, Islam is heavily influenced by Judaism. Please stop confusing contemporary politics regarding Israel with "historical antisemitism". It's a horse poo. Also, while personally I'm not "anti-sionist", anti-sionism does not necessarily equal antisemitism.

Totalitarianism? Show me a mainstream religion with no "totalitarian" elements. And actually Islam gives a lot of influence toward "community" and it's voice.

Women? This is a very complex topic, far from being black/white.

You got it wrong. The whole point of my post was to differentiate between Islam and Islamism as an ideology (and I am talking radical Islamism here, not the Erdogan stuff).

Checked wikipedia. I thought he was non-denominational, but he just got his MDiv from a non-denominational school. You're right.

People need to remember that until the rise of liberalism, the safest place for a religious Jew between Persia in the East and England and Spain in the West, and between Scandinavia in the North and Ethiopia in the South was the Ottoman Empire. The Sephardic Jews who fled the Inquisition found Ottoman Turkey the safest haven.  Ottoman Turkey took Islam seriously and did what it could (often infamously) to convert Christians to Islam. It treated Jews kindly for economic reasons.
