I have said this many times since the Iowa Caucus, but I want to articulate your message and I want to be your voice, and I believe that you will give that chance very soon. I am 100% sure that we will win the nomination and that we will defeat President Obama, and your voice is needed for that. Get out and vote South Carolina, and give us the surprise we want and need!"

Isaac: Tonight, we find out who win's South Carolina, and it's a crucial one. Every recent GOP nominee won South Carolina, and we have another tight race here today.

Debbie: Yes we do, Isaac. Tonight is make-or-break for both Senator Hutchison and Governor Huckabee, who need a win tonight to stay alive. Additionally, where will the Roemer voters go? They could decide who wins here tonight.

Isaac: Polls have consistently shown Senator Hutchison ahead, but a poll was released this morning by CNN which had it tied between her and Huckabee. Could he have the late momentum?

Debbie: I call the poll an outlier - I think tonight's results will be close, but I full expect Senator Hutchison to carry the state. She's ran a great campaign here.

Isaac: And with that, we have our first precincts coming in...

South Carolina (2% Reporting)
Mike Huckabee - 30%
Kay Bailey Hutchison - 22%
Kelly Ayotte - 20%
Mitch Daniels - 19%
Jon Huntsman - 8%

South Carolina (15% Reporting)
Mike Huckabee - 27%
Kay Bailey Hutchison - 26%
Mitch Daniels - 20%
Kelly Ayotte - 18%
Jon Huntsman - 8%

Debbie: A great start for Governor Huckabee, right?

Isaac: Not necessarily - most of these results are coming from the northern part of the state, where Huckabee was expected to do very well. 4 years ago, he polled 29% in the state, which is about what is needed to win. He's underperforming in most precincts thus far.

Debbie: Time will tell - his campaign also spent more time in the Charleston and Columbia areas, so we'll see.

South Carolina (33% Reporting)
Mike Huckabee - 28%
Kay Bailey Hutchison - 26%
Mitch Daniels - 21%
Kelly Ayotte - 16%
Jon Huntsman - 8%

Isaac: We can now project that Jon Huntsman will finish fifth in South Carolina, and Senator Ayotte will finish fourth.

Debbie: Not a bad showing for Ayotte at all, considering she barely spent any time in the state. Her campaign has been firing on all cylinders lately, and I expect her to make a serious push in Florida.

Isaac: Agreed. Many thought she would win New Hampshire and be done...not so. Senator Ayotte is in for the long haul. Though tonight's results make me wonder - with the New Hampshire momentum and debate performances, could Ayotte have won South Carolina had she campaigned here?

Debbie: It's certainly a possibility - it's too early to tell though whether or not her campaign messed up on that.

South Carolina (56% Reporting)
Mike Huckabee - 28%
Kay Bailey Hutchison - 28%
Mitch Daniels - 20%
Kelly Ayotte - 15%
Jon Huntsman - 8%

Isaac: We can now project that Governor Mitch Daniels, winner of the Iowa caucus, will finish third tonight. Another solid showing by the Governor, but his campaign is going to need another win soon.

Isaac: Welcome back! South Carolina is going down to the wire, and we still can't make a projection in the state.

Debbie: Governor Huckabee has come out much stronger than most anticipated, but I don't think it will be enough. Charleston still has quite a bit to report, and so far, it appears Hutchison will take it by a hefty margin.

South Carolina (70% Reporting)
Kay Bailey Hutchison - 29%
Mike Huckabee - 27%
Mitch Daniels - 21%
Kelly Ayotte - 15%
Jon Huntsman - 7%

Isaac: And Kay Bailey Hutchison has now pulled ahead. What happens if she wins tonight?

Debbie: You see her surge - Looking at the upcoming states, I think Senator Hutchison may be in the best position to win the nomination. She has run a very impressive, positive campaign.

South Carolina (88% Reporting)
Kay Bailey Hutchison - 29%
Mike Huckabee - 28%
Mitch Daniels - 20%
Kelly Ayotte - 15%
Jon Huntsman - 7%

Isaac: Things are getting down to the wire, but a projection should be made soon.

Debbie: Yes, here are the results currently.

South Carolina (94% Reporting)
Kay Bailey Hutchison - 28%
Mike Huckabee - 27%
Mitch Daniels - 21%
Kelly Ayotte - 15%
Jon Huntsman - 7%

Isaac: And we are now ready to make a projection...

Kay Bailey Hutchison has won the South Carolina primary!

Debbie: Despite there being enough precincts left for Huckabee to conceivably take the lead, almost all come from areas Hutchison is performing strongly in, and we don't see that changing.

Isaac: Interesting, the map here almost parallels the map four years ago between McCain and Huckabee. Though closer, Governor Huckabee once again comes up just short.

South Carolina (100% Reporting)
Kay Bailey Hutchison - 29%
Mike Huckabee - 27%
Mitch Daniels - 20%
Kelly Ayotte - 15%
Jon Huntsman - 7%

Huckabee Concession Speech:
[Cheers: We want Mike! We want Mike!]
"Thank you, thank you all you. What a night. [Cheers]. I just got off the phone and congratulated Senator Hutchison on her victory here tonight. [Applause] I want to thank my extraordinary campaign staff for all they did in South Carolina. I especially want to thank my friend Chuck Norris. He has been a great resource for this campaign, crisscrossing the country. Chuck, thank you from the bottom of my heart. I also want to thank Senator Jim DeMint for his support throughout this process, it means a lot to have you on our team. And last, but certainly not least, thank you to all of you, the life of this campaign. Thank you for all you've done, and I am sorry if I let you down tonight. Like Iowa, we came up just a little short and once again we take the silver. [Cheers/Applause]

Tonight our campaign is at a crossroads. A decision to be made, whether we will continue on this journey, for the nomination, or swallow our pride and step to the side. I will say this, that no decision will be made tonight. [Cheers] Tonight we celebrate in all of our hard work in the state and applaud the victory of Senator Hutchison.

Thank you. God Bless you and God Bless America."

OOC: I think its down to Daniels v. Hutchinson, though I think Ayotte and Huntsman still have chances to make it into that top bracket. Huckabee needs to fix up his campaign strategy if he wants another shot at this. Maybe Missouri.

"Thank you South Carolina! (cheering) Tonight you've voted for a better future and a new presidency, you're making a statement that we want to more of the status quo in the White House! We need a President who tackles unemployment, underemployment, foreign policy, and many more pressing issues facing our nation today and let me tellya, that person is not Barack Obama. No the President has done little when it comes to the Economic downturn, his policies are serving only to be a hindrance to job creation and job growth and punish small businesses, something we ought to be promoting!

I don't know if I'd be here tonight if it wasn't for all of you. Your tireless volunteering, canvassing, and support has been a huge factor in my campaign and I must say I am truly grateful. I'd also like to think Lindsey Graham and Tim Scott, your guys' campaigning was a huge boost in this race and without it I'm not sure we wouldv'e won. Our message is spreading! Next its on to Florida, then Super Tuesday, then the RNC, and then the White House!  South Carolina, thank you!"

Daniels Concession Speech:

I'll be honest with you, since you deserve the truth: We may have been defeated tonight, but our campaign remains solid and strong, and the following primaries will be the place were we mount the comeback for our ideas and our message.

I'd like to personally congratulate Senator Hutchinson on her victory, since she successfully resisted the calls for negative campaign and she has been very effective on the campaign trail. My congratulations to Gov. Huckabee as well, it was well fought, and I think he may have also won this round by giving a close run to tonight's winner.

What else can I say? My most sincere thanks to the voters and our supporters, and from here we go back to the campaign trail! Thank you very much!

Ayotte Campaign Statement.
We would like to congratulate Kay on her win in South Carolina, and would like to point out that now two different women have won a primary, which is historic in the rep party, and we hope that we can still win more, now lets move this to Florida.

Hutchison takes South Carolina!

Could the Republicans nominate a female President?

It's certainly looking like that is a real possibility, after Senator Hutchison's win in South Carolina. The race moves on to Florida, where guess what? Ayotte and Hutchison are first and second there. Ayotte made the strategic decision to essentially skip South Carolina and focus on Florida, and it has thus paid off, as she leads in the polls there. More and more conservatives are uniting around her campaign, as she is currently perceived as the most "Anti-Obama" candidate in the race. Speaking of conservatives...what's happened to Governor Huckabee? His campaign has fallen just short in Iowa and South Carolina, and many are left wondering what options he has left? His best bet is probably Missouri, then the Super Tuesday states, but can his campaign, which is beginning to struggle in fundraising and momentum, last that long?

"Randomizer" (Will reflect in next polling update)
Ayotte praised by Tea Party leaders - said to be the only "outsider" in the race
