Sorry if this is the wrong board, but does anyone know of any books that provide a full, comprehensive overview of the histories, doctrines, and social positions of all Christian denominations, preferably without bias so that it's only intended for educational purposes?  Most up-to-date is necessary.

No, this isn't for college.

You will never find anything without bias, certainly not on that sort of subject matter. I hate to say it, but Wikipedia is your friend; if there's nothing in the body of the text that satisfies you, there's usually interesting stuff in the footnotes.

This seems like a multi-book project. Try 4 or 5 books on various groups.

Look at the academic presses, especially Oxford University Press.  They tend to have good books or book series that are summaries of the state of the field in most disciplines.

This is probably your best bet for now. If they're properly sourced the articles should direct you to some fairly interesting and relevant books.

Hans Kung's On Being a Christian is really good but it is 35 years old.

That's not that old in the grand scheme of things.

I was going to recommend Church Dogmatics, but (1) it doesn't really have an interdenominational focus--it's a work of, as the title implies, systematic theology, not comparative religion or history of religion--and (2) it's basically the Remembrance of Things Past of theology. I've read, altogether, about half of one volume in different snippets.
