I'm going to take every single person who did what Sewer did and murder them with my bare hands. I don't care how much prison time I serve.

You can start with seatown and the rest of the Socialists who sabotaged party primaries in the past.

Still holding 50-year grudges? That's pathetic.

It is a slippery slope from that nonsense to voting out of spite.  That was when people started taking this so seriously.

You guys could simply have ignored Seatown. Instead, you decided to combat Socialist hackery with Anti-Socialist hackery. You are just as responsible as him for this mess.

And in any case you're more responsible than I or Alfred, who never voted based on these petty reasons.

Are we sure Ike won the presidency?  Seems like the unpledged vote may have denied either candidate an electoral victory.

So Ike wins in the House? Tongue  Though an amendment about unpledged electors would be an interesting thing in this TL.

I feel the need to mention the "silent majority", even if doing so is almost parody Tongue

Also does this mean Eisenhower is going to plant the seeds of Vietnam by approving of Diem's assassination, among other things?  I would assume that would mean Chase gets most of the blame for Vietnam (if she wins reelection).  If that happens does Chase nearly lose New Hampshire to an anti-war Ronald Reagan candidacy?  Does Reagan lose the nomination to Vice President Nixon?  Is Humphrey's VP nominee, Lyndon Johnson, elected narrowly elected due to public disgust with the Vietnam War?  I certainly hope so...

Are you happy now, Sewer? I hope you're happy, because you just personally reelected Dwight Eisenhower because you couldn't accept the goddamn rules.

I feel no shame. I feel no remorse. I would do it again a thousand times.

Still, I am forgiving, nominate a good ticket next time and I might just vote your way. Wink

Do you honestly prefer President Eisenhower to President Humphrey? If so, why?

Good on you for sticking to your principles.

On another note, we don't even know what the unpledged electors will do yet. Heck, one side may have won outright anyway. Of course, I would prefer a second Eisenhower term.

If I can speak for the unpledged electors (or at least 20% of them), if we do hold the balance of power here, we should probably negotiate with one of the sides to swing our EVs to their Presidential candidate while electing someone else (preferably Happy Chandler) as VP. Because popular vote and democracy and such, Cath should probably make that someone Eisenhower.

I can't be at a computer 24/7 dawgs. Gonna answer the tough questions when I'm back home. In the meantime, Ike has won, and threatening to kill people and crying wont change that.

You'd think Rick Santorum just won the Presidency by the way some are reacting. Tongue

I like Ike! Smiley Nice to see a fellow Kansan get reelected.

It's just sadness to see one of the most epic FFs of American politics lose. Sad Especially since it's only due to Sewer throwing a childish tantrum.

The trouble is, McGovern also ran in '68 and '72.

HOWEVER!

I do see a scenario in which both could serve two terms. Either a Humphrey/McGovern ticket wins both times, with McGovern assuming the presidency upon Humphrey's death in 1973 (as IRL), or (and this bit depends on my interpretation of Cath's interpretation of rules that may or may not exist), in order to provide competition to LBJ that isn't George Wallace, Cath runs Humphrey in '64 (just like he kept running Sinclair in the Socialist primary), Humphrey serves two full terms '65-'73, and then McGovern runs and serves two full terms '73-'81.

I'm good at making hypothetical leftist wet-dream scenarios that never turn out the way I want, aren't I?
