In the 1988 Democratic primaries, allegations of Gary Hart's extramarital affair are quickly proven to be false, and he retains his frontrunner status and easily wins the nomination.

The Republican primaries go the same way as IRL, HW Bush is nominated and picks Quayle as his running mate.

Who does Hart pick as his running mate? Who wins in the GE, and what does the map look like?

Well, I have Hart picking Congressman Dick Gephardt of Missouri as his running mate.  Good ideological balance.  Hart does much better than Dukakis IRL.  Dukakis was a lame candidate who still came within 8% of winning the popular vote.  However, I still have Hart falling short of being elected POTUS.

I haven't figured out how to do maps here yet, so I'll list states by region.

Northeast:  In addition to winning NY, MA, RI, & DC (which Dukakis carried), Hart also wins VT, CT, PA, & MD.
South:  Hart wins WV, as Dukakis did, but no more.
Midwest:  On top of MN, IA, & WI, Hart carries IL, MO, & SD.
West:  In addition to WA, OR, & HI, Hart picks up CA, CO, NM, & MT.

It's close, but Bush still wins.

Bush/Quayle:  278
Hart/Gephardt:  260

To make maps you use the "evc" (elctoral vote calculator) up next to "polls", modify it to your desire and it generates a link. I can't post maps yet since I don't have 20 posts Tongue
