The swipe at The Golden Girls was potentially offensive to gay men as well. Two birds with one stone!
I've never understood the appeal of Golden Girls to gay men.
The Golden Girls (1985-92) was ahead of its time in tackling gay themes. Sometimes the issue was just played for laughs (like when Dorothy and Blanche accidentally went on a live talk show about lesbian lovers of Miami) but there was an definite pro-gay feel to
The Golden Girls. In the below scene, Blanche's brother Clayton has come out to her and is planning to get married to another man. Filmed over 20 years ago, the scene still resonates today.
