Wilson, Roosevelt, Reagan and Eisenhower.

A nice balance of Democrat and Republican Presidents.

I don't know why so many people are saying Wilson, Truman, and LBJ.

Wilson was a racist who undid some of the anti-segregation policies of his predecessors, and his international vision failed. Truman made a bunch of bad decisions that negatively affected the rest of the century and beyond. LBJ would be acceptable except for this little thing called Vietnam.

In my earlier post, I said that FDR should be the only one added.  Now I think that James Madison certainly should have been put up there.  (Although the poll included no Presidents before TR).  The Father of the Constitution was almost always right in his brilliant way of thinking; he was kind of like a rational and realistic version of Jefferson.

Why are people voting for Kennedy? Every damn thing Kennedy is credited for was done by Johnson...Kennedy literally was a do-nothing President.

Washington was first President, established the office, created many precedents and is the father of our country in many ways.

Jefferson wrote the Declaration of Independence and greatly expanded the Union

Lincoln saved the Union from separation and brought the Civil War to a victorious finish.

TR brought and reformed America into the modern age, and set America on the world stage as a respected world power, and reshaped the Presidency.

The only contenders I can see for the next spot would be FDR (saving America during the Great Depression, presiding triumphantly over World War II), Lyndon Johnson (for the Great Society), and Reagan (largely for ceremonial reasons due to his "winning" the Cold War, even though he really didn't)

Truman deserves it for the Marshall plan. You guys literally saved Europe, and you don't even realize it. Wink

True, but at the same time, the atomic bombings of Japan stand on his record, and he and his policies pretty much started the Cold War, for better or worse.

How does LBJ get in, the great society was a failure, and except for Wilson, he was the worst foriegn policy president ever.

TR was bad, he went against the constitution and congress on many occations. He also invaded our southern nieghbors, with his reasoning being so others wouldn't do it. His application of the Sherman anti trust act, prosecuting companies for the "greater good" rather than breaking the law, led to the panic of 1907. He severly mishandled Brownsville Texas, the Phillipines rebellion and never should have interferred in the coal strike. He also passed some terrible laws, like the Hepburn act.

FDR didn't end the great depression, he lengthened it. He was a great wartime president, but GHW Bush & McKinley both won quick decisive wars.

I voted Taft, Coolidge, Hoover and Nixon.  I'm going more for a Superfriends vs the Legion of Doom vibe.

The only President on that list who deserves to be on Rushmore is FDR. If we want balance, put Eisenhower on there. He's the only Republican president who deserves it (though I would be happy for Nixon but that might never fly)

Revised:

Polk, McKinley, and FDR. Fourth spot can be fought for by Ike, Reagan, and Jackson.
