Is Dodd's association with Countrywide enough to overcome the national anti-Republican sentiment? Discuss with maps.

Everyone in the Nation is either bored or cringing at the choices, then Stephan Colbert runs and wins in a landslide.

Dodd wins, but it's closer.

A terrible choice for the country, but McCain pulls out a win, despite the unfavorable conditions for Republicans. Dissatisfaction with the Democrats bumps up Ralph Nader.

McCain/Huckabee: 291 (51.1%)
Dodd/Richardson: 247 (44.0%)
Nader/Gonzalez: 0 (3.9%)

Dodd might beat Clinton in the primaries, but not Obama and Clinton.

This

If I had to pick, I would still give an edge to that dull dud Dodd, due to the Democratic advantage in 2008.

Dodd would be a horrible candidate. Not a dynamic speaker, no youth movement behind him. And what's more, his ethical issues would have definitely cropped up. This essentially turns the financial crisis in McCain's favor. With Dodd as the opponent, McCain picks a safer VP choice like Pawlenty or Giuliani. It wouldn't have been a landslide due to Bush's impact, but it would have been a clear GOP win.
