If my rudimentary Italian does not deceive me, Napolitano said that for various "technical reasons", it would not be possible to advance the newly-elected Chamber's first convention to before the originally envisaged date of March 15. This, however, would leave him with ample time to proficiently prepare and conduct consultations on the formation of the next government.

Sounds like the professionals want to take over before .. eh .. the clowns take stage Tongue

The article also mentions that Massimo Donadi (member of Monti's coalition) is claiming that an unintended bug in the Ministry of Interior's software has caused errors in the computation of results. Five seats (including the one he has lost) needed to be reassigned. PD and SEL would each lose one seat, but regain another one, for PdL it is minus two / plus two, IdV (Donadi) gained one, and nobody loses (at least not according to the article).

IdV = Rivoluzione Civile...I am not sure how they could get any seats.

My mistake - the aritcle says "ex-IdV, now with Centro democratico".
Anyway, it might be good if one of you Italians followed up on the matter, since the figures in the article don't add up (6 seats changing possession 5 winners, 4 losers).

Grillo says to trust no one, not even a technical government.

This is what you get when you vote for a troll, Italy.
A technical government is the last kind of government I'd trust (okay, second to last. A Berlusconi government is even lower. No, scratch that. A technical government dependent on Berlusconi's outside support is the lowest one could sink in terms of trustworthiness.)

If they're just gonna put in another technocratic government, what the hell's the point in even having an election in the first place?

Very undemocratic.

To be fair, the Italian voters (and their constitution and electoral system, together with Grillo's attitude) did produce a ridiculously indecisive election result.

I'm pretty much resigned at this point to a second election leading to either a Berlusconi comeback or an M5S government.

First of all, are you talking about the House or about the Senate? If it's the House, it's very easy to verify, since the repartition is national. If it's the Senate, you'd have to dig into region-by-region results...

Well, a government must be appointed and none is possible. The only possible option is a technical government until an election can be held. And none can be held until a new President is elected in May.

Not their fault that 25% voted for a mentally unstable troll whose sole goal seems to be destroying the country.

I could imagine M5S getting a majority in the House. But how the hell would they get a Senate majority (unless the electoral system will have been changed, of course)? And, assuming they don´t, who the hell would support them?

Could Pd prop up a clown minority government, and kill it when it does something stupid?

I suppose so, but why they would do that, especially when they have the majority in the House?

I thought Berlusconi did a bit better than 25%?

Nah, Berlusca is not a 'mentally unstable troll', he is a 'sex-starved creepy old machist clown'; but yes, they share a common goal.

Please from now on reserve this thread for discussion on the results themselves. The generic thread is now reopened for comments on the political situation and future development (including possible new elections).

I was sure Courmayeur was in France. It's a known ski resort in the Alps and since it had a French name, I thought it was in France. Still, it's easier to write than other ski resorts (like Garmish-Partenkitchen, sorry for spelling).

Which kind of party is «Vallée d'Aoste» ?

It's not a big mistake: the Aosta Valley is France in all but name. Tongue

From what I've seen on Wikipedia it's a coalition of various regionalist parties with no clear partisan affiliation. Their guy won the region's single-member seat, anyway.
