What is Inception's social message and what did it win?

Anyway, Scarface is a severely overrated movie. It's just a sh**tty 80s movie in the end.

Solid choices. Most of those are very overrated.

I thought Inglorious Basterds was severely overrated for its true quality and that it was one of Tarantino's worst films, but I know I'm of the minority opinion in those regards.

Scarface is very overrated, as Paul mentioned.

The Matrix.  The Sixth Sense.  Fight Club.  Pretty much everything made in 1999.

Halloween was just silly. Another horror movie that failed to frighten was Hellraiser. I also thought that the Godfather, Part One failed to live up to the hype.

Casablanca. It was decent, but not at all the Holy Grail of movies that everybody pretends it to be.

I thought Signs was rather silly and overall not credibly executed.

The Dark Knight and the sequel to that one was flat out boring.

I think M. Night has exposed himself as being wildly overrated over time.

It captured the 80s perfectly.

oceans eleven- yes
inception- yes
the matrix- yes
the sixth sense- yes
fight club- yes
casablanca- yes
tdk- yes

Inglorious Basterds (Huh) maybe. The best part of it was the 'apaches' theme. Christoph Walt was also incredibly sexy in it, although that probably shouldn't count.

Braveheart- it was a genuine trendsetter, esp. the Battle of Sterling scene. Halloween was a trendsetter for '80s slashers. Scarface has two really good scenes- one where they confront the Colombians, and the other where they confront Frank. The Godfather Pt. 1 for the restaurant scene.

I found A serious man thoroughly dull, uninteresting and despairingly pointless. I've no idea what others think about it though.

Hmm, I must visit wrong sites. I typically bump into fan boys- around here at least. Granted I don't spend too much time on cinema sites.

I enjoyed TDK actually.

Fair enough, but that doesn't take away from the movie itself. Just because people don't get a movie doesn't mean it didn't work and is overrated. I wouldn't expect many Americans to understand the point of Fight Club anyway, so the fact that it's popular despite that is quite a testament. That being said, even though the movie is almost the same as the book, it's a huge disappointment in comparison.

Despicable Me. It just wasn't funny and as much as I love Steve Carrell, his accent was too annoying. It was the first and only movie I've ever fallen asleep on in a theatre.

Indeed.  Is there anybody out there that likes Signs?  I'm pretty sure it's the last M.Night Shamalamadingdong I'm seen.  The aliens are alergic (or whatever) to water?  Really?  Granted water is more common in the universe than we once assumed, it's not exactly hard to avoid.  So these aliens that can't touch water land on a planet that is 3/4s water and they do it NAKED?  Come on!

The most recent overrated movie I saw was Looper.  I guess it was OK, but how in the world did this get over 80 on Metacritic and over 90 on Rotten Tomatoes?

Oh, I agree about Braveheart being over-rated, but not some of the others. I loved Training Day, but of course I'm a big fan of Denzel Washington. He can do some heavy stuff well, he's a great actor.

Someone mentioned The Godfather. Really? I actually think all three of them, including Part III, are really, really excellent. It's probably my favorite trilogy, and I love how Part III brings it all full circle.

I think most movies generally - and certainly the hyped ones - made in the last 10-12 years or so are terrible. The recent Batman movies are far over-rated as well as most of the movies that have won Best Picture.

Scorsese finally won for The Departed, which paled greatly next to Casino and was nowhere in the neighborhood of Goodfellas, which I think is one of the best movies of all time, but still The Departed is a Scorsese picture, so it is good, but over-rated by his own very, very high standard.
