My error. Anyhow, if he votes no, I will shun. I encourage others to do the same.

He's one of our best posters for reasons that have nothing to do with his political views or his elected position.

Excellent! Smiley The advance of the gay rights cause in the past couple years is truly impressive.

How did muon vote? He needs some serious shunning if he voted against again.

Isn't he in the House?

Yep.

I grew up in Muon's district. He's probably not going to vote in favor. Which is fine - consider it the equivalent of BRTD being a good poster despite all the mind-numbing polls.

Senator Holmes voted in the affirmative - whoever that person is. Smiley

It's hideous news. Why should gays be allowed to marry when gun rights are not protected.
what do these points have to do with anything

I hope Muon votes in favor. After all he represents the Chicago suburbs. There can't be that much anti-gay sentiment there in 2012, can there?

I see than one of the Democratic no votes is calling Haine. He represents Alton.

Fitting name, as it means hate or hatred, in French (haine, not Alton).

Is JCL trolling or serious? It's impossible to tell. It's a lot like the update. Sometimes you just have to play along.

Sadly and scarily, he's completely serious.

I'm sure one day he'll get kicked by a mule again and his brain will return from the 1650s.

Seriously, excessive stupidity should be an infractable offense.

Who will get same sex marriage next? There's kind of a race between IL, RI, Uruguay, France, and the UK.

I'll go with France.

I think muon2 voted against civil unions/domestic partners on a technical issue that ostensibly wouldn't apply to full marriage rights.  I hope.

I can't shun someone I respect holistically so much, but please do the right thing -- as someone who cares about rational public policy -- my man!

Regarding France, the bill has passed in the House but will only come to the Senate floor in April, for some reason. So we might be outrun. Sad

Uruguay is precisely the same. Hmm, I guess the states will probably win this.

It probably won't come for a vote in RI until the end of this term in April/May, or even June. And it's not guaranteed to pass the state senate either.

UK House of Lords won't study it before May, so, you're not so bad.

He works hard here.  Makes maps and thoughtful posts.  Carefully explains and analyzes trends.  And he doesn't have the habit of making angry, drunken posts like some posters do.  Would you really shun an excellent poster because he doesn't agree with you on a particular issue?

Anyway, that's not how it works.  If you don't like the way an assemblyman votes, then vote him out.  Better yet, run against him on a platform of marriage equality and let the voters decide who is the better assemblyman.  If you're in Tennessee, and I'll wager that you have no shortage of folks in the state house there who oppose you on this issue.  Run against one of them.  You might win.  Especially in Memphis.

Anyway, that's not how it works.  If you don't like the way an assemblyman votes, then vote him out.

On a forum where he chooses to engage with people and acknowledge his public office, those people are welcome to engage with him and return and disapprove of his votes. That is "how it works," too.

That said, his district includes Wheaton College. I expect he will vote against marriage equality, I don't know or care whether it is out of conviction or so not to pick a pointless fight with his primary voters, and because I value his contributions on apolitical matters, I would be happiest just not thinking about how he makes his public stand on the issue.

As you said, he's responsible to his voters and not to us on his views. He can stand by that. I just hope that if he chooses to discuss this vote here, he doesn't cite arguments about fraud that are beneath him. And if he doesn't think he can have a constructive conversation here about his vote, not to engage on the issue.
