Will Giffords be ready to run in 2016?

I thought he said he wasn't a politician anyway. But he could well be a good candidate.

I would hope more for a Carmona run for Governor, considering I think people would be more open to voting democrat for Governor than doing the same for Senate.

Non-politicians often make better politicians in theory than in practice (eg Wes Clark).  That said, Mark Kelly is obviously an appealing candidate.  I would prefer him over Carmona by far.  And really, who else do the Democrats in Arizona really have?  Terry Goddard? Rodney Glassman?

I doubt Gabby Giffords will ever run for office again. I believe her husband saying that her cognitive faculties have returned, but she can only speak painfully slowly and with considerable effort. She can walk unaided but can do little more than shuffle; it was painful seeing the camera pan to her at the SOTU when she couldn't hardly lift her hands up to applaud. I don't see how someone with those limitations can campaign and carry out the obligations of public office. It's been two years since her accident; at this point, any recovery of her physical and mental abilities isn't going to improve any further.

The Democrats need to stand tall in AZ in 2016.  That state seems ripe for them to make some serious infusion, but they keep failing at the presidential/senatorial level.  Jon Kyl should have easily been knocked out in 2006 and possibly 2000; the democrats couldn't even field a candidate in 2000.

Here's another chance as Mac will be retiring.

Carmona for governor 2014, Kelly for McCain's seat in 2016 (if he retires), and Napolitano taking Flake's seat is the Arizona Democratic dream. We might actually be able to start discussing Arizona for Democrats in the presidential election in 2020 if that happens.

I think the Mayor of Phoenix is a Democrat, he'd be a solid candidate for Governor or Senate.  Regarding Carmona, his best shot came and went.

I don't know about mental abilities, but Rep. James Langevin of Rhode Island has served in Congress for over a decade as a quadriplegic. (Incidentally, he was also injured in a shooting, an accidental one, when he was 16.)

I agree that Kelly is more likely than Giffords to pursue a future political career, though.

Langevin is one of the sharpest minds in Congress.

Any talk about Sinema. She can pull a Baldwin in 2016.

I doubt it, just because of her non-traditional traits.  But, then again, Arizona has a great history of female politicians (O'Connor, J-Nap, Hull, Giffords, Bruja).

I think the Mayor of Phoenix is a Democrat, he'd be a solid candidate for Governor or Senate.  Regarding Carmona, his best shot came and went.

I think Phil Gordon (former mayor) would be a much stronger candidate than the current mayor who was just elected.  Gordon would also continue the great history of Jewish politicians in AZ (Goldwater, Giffords, Coppersmith).

I meant Giffords' mental abilities, obviously. Seems like an odd thing to speculate about; I assume she's made a full recovery on that aspect. But the post I was replying to suggested otherwise.
