Having learned, perhaps, why the six good men who preceded me stood down after a single term, I'm anxious to get back to legislating. Considering that my term will be up shortly and I would be resigning early if elected to the Northeast Assembly regardless, why not have a fun Senate race and try to spice this election up? Besides, I'm not one to miss an opportunity to do something bold and totally unorthodox.

Why the Senate? Well, I had fun serving two terms as Northeast Senator, but serving at-large is different than serving a single constituency and it's something I'd like to try in my post-presidential Atlasian life. I still have some gas in the tank solar power to make good use of.

Obviously, the committee system is something I fought tirelessly for as a Senator, in fact, I was the first one really making a push for it. Committees have helped make the Senate more interesting and I would enjoy the chance to actually serve on one now that they have been established (and hopefully, further define their role in the legislative process). Another thing that is missing since I left the Senate, is the sort of collaboration we used to have. I remember reaching across the aisle to RPP Senator MOPolitico to push for a sweeping healthcare reform bill when we learned that the system was about to fail, and that bill eventually became law after generating one of the healthiest debates the Senate has seen in recent memory.

Okay, so not everything has gone perfect in my second term, but I'm ready to get started on the next chapter. When you've been able to do just about all there is to do in Atlasia, as I have, it make sense to give back. This thread is open for any questions about the issues or the campaign.

I'd have a hard time voting against you if I wasn't running myself. Should be a fun race! And if it goes poorly for both of us, hopefully we'll meet in the Northeast Assembly regardless. Wink

You got to me first - several fine candidates in this race thus far, though.

This may come as a surprise to many- but I am proud to endorse my former opponent Napoleon for te Senate...despite our many disagreements, he has been a very active President and he has always been one to lead debate and discussion...Even though I am not in the Senate any more, I believe he and Hagrid for example can have many productive dialogues which will be good for all of Atlasia
Would I have preferred to have been your President these past several months? Sure- but at least this fellow who beat me made these terms count and I am confident he will do the same in the Senate

Thank you to all for your support. It means a lot.

Now I offer a pledge:

Having served as Senator before, and as President now, I've gained quite a perspective on the inner-workings of each branch. Some would point out the at times tense relations I've had with the Senate in parts of my second term. If there is no communication between Senators and the President, there will be problems. I promise to maintain active communication with Cabinet officials and the President, whoever may be elected to succeed me. I did this in the past as a Senator and I think it was helpful in building effective working relationships. Senators, individually or collectively, do not exist in a bubble and therefore I find a collaborative environment to be more productive and overall, more fun.
