This time his surname is not Maloney but Eldridge, and his husband is Facebook co-founder Chris Hughes. He's an investor and has been engaged in LGBT causes and campaign finance reform.

I'm not surprised, I've kept my eyes on these guys for a while. I remember that Eldridge contemplated running against Nan Hayworth in NY-18 in 2012, which as we all know was won by Sean Patrick Maloney. Chris Gibson is definitely favored, though, especially as it's a midterm year. Ricky Gill didn't do very well in CA-09 after all. A risky move for Eldridge.

While we're on the subject of Maloney... he was born in Sherbrooke. Does anybody know if he's foreign born of American parents or naturalized?

Wish I'd posted this when I knew about it. A close friend of mine works for Chris Hughes on one of his newer tech ventures. Good luck to Sean.

I don't think it's "risky" in the sense of standing to lose something, though of course he may not win the election. Losing the election doesn't harm him in any way.

Also, NY-19 was D+2 in PVI in 2012, so it's not exactly out of reach.

My Congressman is a major FF as far as I'm concerned, it'd be awesome for him to be part of a pair of "New York Gay Brothers Sean" from neighboring districts.

It's hard to say how much deliberate Republican inaction on Hurricane Sandy affected the political leanings of this district. I wouldn't want to be seeking re-election as a Republican in New Jersey or New York next year.

No. They live on a huge estate in Ulster County.
