Almost agree. but Tisei would win in 2010. He lost in much worse 2012 by 1% and partially - because Libertarian candidate took about 4.5%. Without that Tisei would win even in 2012

Tisei would have won MA-6 in 2010 against a similarly tarnished Tierney, but he would not have beaten Coakley in 2010 for Senate. As much as she turned out to be a bad candidate, it took Brown's charisma and campaigning to make himself a viable alternative.

He needs to keep his feet above water in a primary, but who could even test him in a general?

Dan Winslow has launched an exploratory committee.

Why do I have very little idea who Dan Winslow is and no idea what's so special about him? He's an Eastern Mass exurban apparatchik/General Courtnik of some kind, right?

Dan Winslow is one of those types that is a part of government because he really wants to serve. He's a good person (I've met him), but more importantly, he's a much better fit for Massachusetts than Brown. Brown was a show horse. Winslow is a workhorse, and a socially liberal one at that. He even supports gay marriage, which I thought a bit surprising considering his past ties with the Romney administration.

I feel like Winslow is the male Mary Z. Connaughton. He's certainly the exact kind of candidate t
o get newspaper endorsements, which could be very helpful in winning over thoughtful Democrats.

Mary Z. Connaughton is my cousin, so that direct a comparison is obviously tempting, and reading more about him he seems like a very good man indeed, but, well...he's still a vote for McConnell/Cornyn, and probably against a lot of economically leftist ideals that are important to me. Sorry, Winslow.

Mary Z.'s the only current Massachusetts Republican I'd give much serious consideration to voting for--other than Richard Tisei if he ran against Tierney again and I was living there. Family loyalty and all that.

I really do think she should by rights be State Auditor right now. Bump's not even a CPA.

100% support.

Hey, maybe Winslow will draft her as his LG when he runs for governor in 2014? Wink

I might be tempted to vote for him then, depending on who my own beloved state party coughs up. Wink

Is anyone still surprized why people in many parts of the US (especially South, but parts of the Plains and Mountains as well) absolutely refuse even to consider any Democratic candidates (even conservative ones) and vote for even extreme wingnuts? The same logoc, only inverted - "i will not be one more vote for Pelosi".

P.S. How i am supposed to vote if i am not a fan of both - Boehner and Pelosi? Probably the only one (asi always did) - spit on the parties (BOTH) and vote for a candidate i like consciously ignoring the parties)))

Of course I'm not surprised by that. It's an arguably unfortunate feature of the current environment, but it's there. All or almost all Congressional elections are nationalized now.

Besides, I wouldn't want to vote for an economic rightist for the Senate, McConnell or no McConnell.

For me (somewhat fiscal conservative, but mostly social liberal) - vice versa: Winslow is close to ideal candidate)))

P.S. It's not only congressional elections that are nationalized now. Slowly, but inevitably state legislative elections become nationalized too: almost no Democrats in most of the South (except minority-majority districts and very few "oldtimers" who win despite Democratic labels, not because of it) and almost no Republicans in, well, Massachusetts and similar states, where even relative conservatives prefer to run as Democrats
