You should think the Democrats' enthusiasm would send a hint to the Tea Party, but of course it won't.

Brilliant! Cheesy Even if the teabagger ends up winning, it would still be awesome to kick McConnell's ass.

Message to the Tea Party: the enemy of my enemy is my ally. We both hate Mitch. A LOT. Let's oust him together.

McCaskill ran ads that gave Akin a boost in the Missouri primary. Of course, the primary voters didn't see through the guise, and knew that a "real conservative" would win the race.

Do you hate him more than John Cornyn?  Because I think that's who would take his place...

IDK Cornyn much, but I doubt anything he said could beat Mitch's "my #1 goal is to make Obama a one term president" line.

I don't think McConnell has ever really been that popular in KY but the guy continues to win re-election every 6 years.

The correct approach to President Obama would have been "make him do what is right or make him a one-term President". They should have participated in the process so that they could get a compromise on controversial issues. If a President does what is right for America he should be re-elected.

The Hard Right has tried to cast President Obama as a super-villain of American history even before he did anything. Such was a high-risk proposition with questionable rewards.  The paradox is that except for Obamacare he has done most of what a conservative would endorse if this President were a conservative Republican. Reality has struck, and Barack Obama got re-elected. The Hard Right is stuck with him.

Barely elected in 2008 despite the state going strongly against a Democratic nominee for President highly unpopular in the state. Vulnerable in 2014 if the Democrats can put a strong or experienced Senate nominee against him.

A high-ranking member of the Senate can lose. Think of Daschle in 2004 and Santorum in 2006. Sure, he has all sorts of power in the Senate... but what has he done for Kentucky?

Loads of pork and influence. Anyhoo, McConnell will be just fine in the primary and GE.

Represented it.

Congressional leaders seem to care less about their states/districts the higher on the longer they stay and the higher they move up.  That's a broad generalization, of course.  I'm sure McConnell's introduced some pork for his state, I'm just not sure what.

That's what they said about Bennett in my state.

Bennett was caught defenseless and completely off guard. McConnell is allied with Rand, who is supporting him in the primary. Massie is tacitly supporting him. McConnell has been very visible at home and keeping an eagle eye out for the faintest hint of a challenge. Plus it's easy to pull an ambush at conventions, not in a primary. Even the TP is split, some support McConnell, others don't but can't find a candidate, and a few will take the "throw the kitchen sink and see what happens" approach.

This is laughable. If the Tea Partiers were actually to put up a serious challenger, all McConnell would have to do is make an ad about how their candidate was funded by Hollywood Liberals and cast himself as the true conservative.

I would like a challenge to McConnell, but this is quite far-fetched.

Some within the party have reportedly pressured her.

If I were her, I'd wait till 2016 as Paul seems like lower hanging fruit.

I don't know why Democrats would do this except for some sort of satisfaction of getting McConnell out. Considering how low his approvals are, you would think a (not crazy) fresh face Tea Partier would win pretty easy in Kentucky as compared to McConnell.

The best chance to oust him is a third party run, possibly a Tea Partier that can garnish 10% in Nov.  If that happens, there's a chance there isn't sufficient support left to put McConnell back.

I would literally take a Tea Partier over McConnell. The Tea Partier would at least be shut out of leadership and could be an easier target the next time around.

I'd love to see nothing more than McConnell getting defeated, even if that meant him being replaced by a Tea Partier.
