Thoughts on this toon?

Tool tip is: "The local police, growing increasingly concerned about this church, ask parishioners to take a sip of wine and then spit it back out for DNA testing. It's blood, and it matches a 1970s murder victim."

Pretty run of the mill Catholic joke.

Can't be a Catholic joke. It doesn't feature a priest and a minor Cheesy

It's a substantial joke instead of a minor joke.

Most denomnations (like my own) believe that communion is a symbol of Jesus' body and blood and never becomes His actual body or blood.  I know Catholics and some Protestants disagree, but I can't see how they wouldn't be symbols.

There's also a 3rd view that the holy spirit is present in the elements, but the bread and wine are just bread and wine. That's my view personally.

Have Jesus in spirit in you doing good even as he does good Jesus will be flesh, and blood in you as if you ate him without eating him at all. That is because we are flesh, and blood.  Communion is just symbolic of that. a reminder of what jesus who is the father did for us forgiving us. Had we forgive like he forgave jails,  military,  police ,and other forms of oppression, and terrorism. would not exist.

LDS theology teaches that it's completely symbolic, and the importance is more in that it is specially blessed and consecrated to act as a symbolic remembrance of Christ. In fact, while we usually have individual, from the heart prayers, the "sacrament prayer" is scripted, and is kind of our version of "give us this day our daily bread".

Was it crumbly bits of Saltines with a small clear plastic cup of Welch's grape juice for anybody else?
