Report.

In the general election, what if the Democratic party’s candidate were Ed Markey and the Republican party’s candidate were Scott Brown? Would you be more likely to vote for Republican Scott Brown or Democrat Ed Markey?

Brown (R)- 53%
Markey (D)- 31%
Unsure- 15%

Brown's favorables are 55/32; Markey's are 24/17.

I'm not seeing how someone like Markey could make up a twenty-two point deficit against Brown in this span of time. Even Martha Coakley would be doing better at this point; I bet she regrets not throwing her hat in the ring, especially since she's out of the Governor's race too.

I would say SAFE DEMOCRATIC sans Brown, LIKELY REPUBLICAN with him.

I believe that this same pollster had Brown winning in one of their last polls before last year's election when everyone else had Warren up, they only lined up at the last minute.

At this point, it's all name recognition, once the campaign starts, the numbers won't look like this. Someone who just lost an election generally doesn't win another by 20 points in a span of just a few months, not unless they run for a safe seat and this is anything but a safe Republican seat.

This appears to be a very soft lead based on a large name rec gap.

When nobody knew who Warren was, she was about this far behind too.

2013 isn't a presidential election year. And Ed Markey is certainly more well known than Warren.
