Article.

Delegate Larry Faircloth (R) is the first announced candidate for the seat being vacated by Shelley Moore Capito. He has represented Berkley County (on the eastern panhandle) for 12 terms.

Last year, he ran statewide for Auditor against Glen Gainer but lost 57/43. Outside of a handful of panhandle/northern counties, Gainer swept the state.

After doing a bit more looking around, I found that Faircloth also ran in the Special Gubernatorial race in 2011. The Republican field, from which Bill Maloney emerged, was crowded; Faircloth placed in 5th place out 8 candidates. He got about 4% and carried Berkeley County.
