Here are all the ones I can name off the top of my head. But I've only been to five of them.

Wow!  What a wealth of wonderful choices!  Makes you think how crappy most US cities are.

If money were no object probably Berlin, Vienna, or London.  Since it is, and since I like very, shall we say available ladies, Eastern Europe is just the ticket.  However Ukraine is too dangerous.  Prague?  Perhaps not cheap enough.

Ok, I voted Bucharest, but beleive me it would only be a home base for visiting many of the others on the list.

Seriously? probably Dublin. At least they speak English there, and I hear Ireland is beautiful. Plus, Ireland doesn't have too much immigration from the Middle East, so the lingua franca won't become Arabic in 20 years.

If I had to live outside the US, Australia would be my #1 choice.

Rome

I've been to Rome, Naples and Milan when I went to Italy a few years ago. One side of my family is from the Naples area and while it seemed like a nice area when we were driving in, the city itself is chaotic. I couldn't live there. Milan was nice but I didn't spend enough time there. Rome seems just right for me.

I've been to Dublin, Lyon, Paris, Marseille, London, Manchester, Amsterdam, Bruxelles, Frankfurt, Berlin, München, Milano, Roma, Moskva and Sankt-Peterburg.
Of those, I might like to live in Marseille, Bruxelles, Berlin or Roma, or of course stay in Frankfurt.
Of the others, Lisboa, Napoli, Istanbul, Praha, Wien and Budapest are places I really want to see someday.

London and Paris are my two personal favourites of the list. (Slight bias being that I live in London - but seriously, it is great!)

London or Amsterdam would be my two top choices.

I've visited and loved both.

London.  I have friends there and I think it is the most like New York.  Ive been there for a total of about three weeks and could see myself enjoying living there.

I only speak English and some French, so I would want to live in a city that spoke one of those languages. My choices...

1) Paris
2) London
3) Geneva
4) Dublin

I picked Munich because I have so many friends near by. I was invited to teach and work on research there a few years ago, but I had to decline due to other commitments.

I have had many other delightful stays in other cities on the list: Lyon, Paris, Geneva, Moscow, Vienna (especially fond since it was the location for my honeymoon). The only one on the list I stayed in, but wasn't impressed was Frankfurt. I was there for a day in 1989 and I found it rather dull. I hope that it has improved in the last 15 years.

No, Copenhagen was closer. What makes you think I'm Nordic?

I knew someone would make this exact thread, surprised about the couple day delay though - ah well Wink

Anyway, voted Vienna.
