Oh, good, a poll; so Hawaii voters could think pretty much anything.

Well duh, you think people had a hard strongly felt opinion on the issue? Schatz will probably be in the Senate til he's 98 (assuming life expectancy continues to rise) and PPT.

I wasn't expecting that. That's great Smiley I thought Abercrombie was politically dead after the pick. Good to know he isn't.

Yep. I still can't quite stomach the disrespect that was shown to Inouye.

Oh give me a break... Inouye wasn't the king or something.  I have voted for Hanabusa before to keep the seat blue, but she's a terrible candidate.  I'm not a big fan of Schatz either, but there are honestly no Hawaii politicians that inspire me so I guess he will do for now.

Agreed.  In a democratic republic, no one can will their senate seat to anyone else.  I don't care how much of a hero you were.  It's wrong to even try.

Disrespect? It wasn't his Senate seat; it belongs to the people of Hawaii. They deserve a Senator who will stick around long enough so they can reap the benefits of seniority.

Actually, I disagree with that logic too.  How about having a senator that best represents us?

It wasn't Inouye's place to hand pick a successor, it is the Governor's. No one is entitled to any office.

The best way to solve these kinds of dilemmas would be to have Congress candidate have running mates whose role is to replace them in case of death/resignation (it's done in France for lower House members, and probably in a few other countries as well). That said, when you have the appointment procedure you have, complaining about nominations makes little sense.

What's the problem with Schatz? He seems like the model progressive.

I didn't initially like the pick, but I wasn't yet made aware of how unintelligent Ms. Hanabusa seems to be. The Governor made the right choice.

Nothing really, but he has never accomplished anything in his career or had a real job for that matter.  He just gives everyone the impression he's a rich kid who's had it really easy in his life and now becomes the senior Senator of Hawaii without ever having won a serious election.
Plus, as I said in another thread, voting the right way isn't enough IMO.  I would like to have people who can communicate their positions.  I think the entire Hawaii delegation will be a very reliable Democratic vote, but I doubt they will ever author anything important.
