Hmmm, 16 years. I'm sure there's someone who's had a longer timespan than that, as much as I love Lloyd Bentsen.

Well, he didn't serve in either chamber, but Jerry Brown does have a 28 year gap between his governorships.

Has anyone else even managed to be governor at some point 28 years after they first were? Governor George Clinton of New York didn't quite pull that off despite being the longest serving governor in US history, and having a 6 year gap. Jerry Brown was governor 38 years ago.

Cecil Underwood was Governor of West Virginia both from 1957 to 1961 and 1997 to 2001.
