Hopefully they are as successful as when they tried to primary him in 2012.

It's a safe Republican seat in any case, right? Then I hope he survives and becomes Congress's new resident crazy.

You can't primary Santa Claus. Especially not at this time of the year. Just no.

Not safe Republican. The seat is R+3 or so. Obama won it in 2008 (but not 2012) IIRC.

No, he pretty much won in 2012 because his opponent's name was Syed Taj instead of David Curson

Romney won this seat 52-47. PVI is R+4.

Err, he would have beaten David Curson in the new seat.

Republicans redistricted Michigan, guys...the new MI-11 is more R than the old MI-11. That was the key reason Bentivolio defeated Taj but lost to Curson.

Gotta disagree with you on that one, but there's no way to know for sure.

Why couldn't he have been a Republican?

Let's hope the ideology hacks in my party don't throw away another seat that we would likely win (or in this case, hold on to).

Throw away? Bentivolio is the incumbent, are you suggesting that he should be forced to retire?

No, but he would have a much better chance of winning than a far-right Tea Party candidate.  Personally, I want to Bill Schuette primary Gov. Snyder if he runs again.  But I'm hoping that Snyder will forgo reelection, which I think there is a very good chance of.

If the "he" you're referring to is Bentivolio... you do know who Bentivolio is, right?

A far-right, crazy, Tea Party cadidate >> far-right Tea Party candidate. That's Oldies logic.

I don't know, I'd be modestly tempted to vote for Bentivolio, uniquely among all Tea Partiers in the country, because, well...

On one hand, you're entirely right.

On the other hand, have you ever actually sat down and WATCHED The Band Wagon? 'That's Entertainment' is completely apropos.

In any case, Bentivolio is the real Santa Claus and an attempt to primary him can only result in some other subvariety of depressing right-winger who won't be nearly as funny.
