How easy will it be for him to hold the seat when it comes up for election?

Very easy, I suspect.

Yeah.  If there is a primary contest, it'll be against Graham, and for the same reason, the Democrats most likely to do well in the general election will be gunning for Graham's seat in hopes of the GOP dumping him for a extreme right-wing loon.   Unless picked for some other office, Tim Scott is a lock for 2014, 2016, and 2022.  He'd probably be a lock for 2028 except he's already pledged to limit himself to two full terms.  Perhaps he'll run for President then?

Please God no. He's no Barack Obama.

Barack Obama is no Barack Obama.

More seriously, Scott will only be 63 in 2028.  Unless he intends to retire from politics altogether, if he holds to his two-term pledge, his options then would be to run for President in 2028 or run for Governor in 2030.

Black Republicans do not have a very good shelf life.  I don't know much about this guy but is there any reason to believe we don't have another Alan Keyes, Allen West, J. C. Watts, Micheal Steele, Herman Caine, et al on our hands?

This should be interesting. It's easy to assume that many white southerners are more motivated by race more than anything else in politics, which could potentially make Tim Scott vulnerable when he's up for election. There are examples of this phenomenon still existing in South Carolina. Support for Vincent Sheheen was significantly underrepresented in the polls in the 2010 Gubernatorial election. Haley only won by 4 points in a conservative state in one of the best years for Republicans in a generation. Nikki Haley, of course, was Indian American and Sheheen was white.

But also, southerners, I've found, are very self conscious about the "racist" label and try to prove their tolerance, often by vociferously supporting black Republicans. Allen West is like a God among conservatives in my hometown for instance, and the white GOP establishment is quick to support black Republicans in most circumstances.

Of course, you could argue that these black politicians are expected to act like Uncle Toms. The second they start hinting at racial inequality or issues that are important to the black community they lose support from their conservative base, who expect them to insist that racism doesn't exist and that the Democrats are the ones who are trying to divide blacks and whites in order to win votes. Allen West spouted off this shiz a lot, and conservatives loved him for it, primarily because he insisted that black people are responsible for their problems. If Scott follows his lead, he should be fine.

Good (even if it's just another Conservative).
