Good morning fellow Mideasterners,

I have decided not to seek a third consecutive term as Mideast Governor. This has not been an easy decision for me because I really like the job with everything it involves. However, I believe that eight months are enough and since the Mideast is such a thriving region I don't want to occupy the Governor's mansion for too long. There are capable individuals on the right, the left and in the center of the political spectrum so I have no doubt that the voters of our region will be able to choose between excellent candidates in January.

The Mideast is in very good shape today; we are witnessing the most active and productive Assembly session in the entire history of our region as well as a great deal of interest in the upcoming legislative elections. While some things could have been done a bit better, this shows that the last months can't have been all that bad. Wink Every single Mideasterner who has voted in our elections or debated regional issues deserves credit for that.

Now I am aware that I may have rubbed some people the wrong way at times and I apologize if there is someone who feels that I attacked them personally. I do, however, not apologize for any political controversies I have caused because they have proved to be a blessing for the activity levels in the Mideast. We should also keep in mind that unless you are SirNick a Governor can never please everybody.

I will perform my duties until the end of my term but I am not sure what I am going to do after January. We will see. I will let you know in time. Wink

Thank you for bearing with me!

I may not always like you, but I do respect the work you have done for the Mideast Region and the Federalist Party, ZuWo.

You've always been principled and consistent on the issues- even if my views on them totally differ. I'm sure we'll get in scuffles/arguments in the future, but I should let it be known that I think your potential exit from the game would harm the game overall (since I believe you have made a net contribution during your time here). I certainly hope you decide to seek elected office in Atlasia sometime again. Good luck.

Sorry to see you leave office (even though we have completely contrasting views on almost anything) I really hope you stay active and start a newspaper or something!

We may not always agree on the issues, but I've always respected both how hard you have worked to improve the region and your civil and respectful approach to the game.  You will be missed and I hope you decide to remain active in Atlasian politics.  It has always been a pleasure working with you Smiley

You've accomplished a whole lot during your time in office, controversial or not. Hopefully you'll seek office once more sometime down the road, because it would be a shame to lose your voice.

I'll echo this. You are valuable to Atlasia and it would be a shame to lose your voice entirely.

Thank you for the kind responses. I will stick around but it's time for someone else to be Governor.

Back to business now:

I veto the "Police Surveillance Act" due to the concerns expressed by myself and Speaker Inks in the debate thread.

I sign the "Don't Drown the Voters in Information Act".

Fellow Mideasterner,

you can now vote on the following federal amendment (Life Imprisonment Abolition Amendment):

https://uselectionatlas.org/FORUM/index.php?topic=182544.0

I strongly encourage you to vote against it. While I am firmply opposed to the death penalty, I believe that there are heinous crimes which must be punished appropriately. Highly dangerous serial killers who haven't shown any respect for the lives of other people have clearly forfeited their right to be free. We owe that to the victims, their families and our country in general. We simply cannot afford to release murderers from prison who pose a threat to society.

No, I'm not running for re-election. Wink

Seriously, though, the government will let those who know how to deal with such tragedies do their jobs and give them all they need to help the victims of the tornados as effectively as possible.

You're right. It should be 6 votes. I forgot to subtract off the vote taken for the surplus distribution.

It doesn't change the outcome at all.
