Strom Thurmond's head in a Futurama jar.

I'd support that.

His staffers say he wants the Senate seat, if offered.

But remember, guys: right wingers are judgmental.

Be tolerant!...as long as people have our values, interests, etc.

Oh, I am very tolerant of them. They provide me with great amusement. Really, laughter is the best medicine and all that, so I love having these people around.

The Heritage Foundation isn't really a lobbying organization... I've never heard it called that before, actually.

A sad, sad, sad day for Democrats nationwide.

Actually it is a very bad day for Democrats. Just wait till you hear of RNC Chair Rev. JC Watts. DeMint was in advertising (and quite successful prior to his time in politics). It will be Tea Party promotions all around in SC on this one.

I'm actually perplexed by this. I think his best place to be Iinfluential is the Senate. If God (yes the Christian one) led him to this, moderates don't stand a chance of winning the nod in the GOP primary. Awesome thing is we have a deep GOP bench for 2016.

Miles.... DeMint didnt start the recession. It was guys like him and Pence who fought for conservative principals that went against the GOP establishment.

Money talks my friend.  Your buddy DeMint chose the hefty paycheck over being "influential".

Also he did start the recession.  Alvin Greene says so lol

Something that I thought was funny:  some GOP Congressmen seem to want DeMint as their Speaker. lol

Nothing's wrong with praying, obviously, and a lot's right with it, especially with praying on someone else's behalf, but I do confess I'm a little bemused that Tim Scott has a whole group of people designated for that purpose, even more so that 'team' is the term he has decided (or they have decided?) to use.

Exactly. Just like when Bushie used the term "prayer plan".

Mark Sanford's not ruling out a run for the seat, apparently.

I hope this doesn't end up costing Lindsey Graham his seat. DeMints are a dime a dozen in the GOP these days but Graham would be missed in the senate.

I'm hoping for a Senator Stephen Colbert.

Sorry,  Haley has ruled out naming either herself or Colbert.  In Colbert's case it was he didn't know that he didn't know that milk is our state drink. .

Well, he left with high approval ratings, if I remember correctly. In all honesty, without the scandal, I think he would have had a decent shot at the GOP nomination in 2012.

I wonder if Tim Scott being potentially seen as an "affirmative action" pick could hurt his chances, especially as it seems that racism may have hurt Haley in her election. I think he could win the seat on his own merits but it's the perception that counts.

Haley: no interim appointment. And since Peter Hamby tells us on Twitter that Mulvaney's also out... looks very much like Tim Scott.

They're...leaving the seat empty until 2014?

That news release is basically trolling.

Also, that's the poll Ernest was called for.

Is Colbert even a South Carolina resident?

I see they left off some of the later questions they asked about the primaries, possibly because they didn't get enough respondents since they only got 520 for the overall survey and I think they asked the primary questions only for those who indicated they would be voting in the Republican primary.  That was a lengthy poll tho, and I was tempted to hang up on it at times.

Is Colbert even a South Carolina resident?

He at least has relatives that are, so he could just move in with one of them for residency purposes like Mitt did with his son in Massachusetts.  Indeed, one of his sisters, Elizabeth Colbert-Busch, has been mentioned as someone who might take a real stab at Tim Scott's seat if he is promoted by Haley. (Not that I would expect her to win it, since she would be running as a Democrat.) (link)
