Ha. Those Andrews/Pallone-Guadagno numbers are great. Obviously wouldn't last. Not that it matters though.

Are you deliberately misspelling every single of these names? Huh

Republicans need to find a strong, viable challenger to this seat, and fast. Lautenberg is 88, and he'll be 89 on Election Day. Which means he'll be 95 when his term is up. There were questions whether or not he still had his mental facilities six years ago, and those questions won't be going away.

Also, LOL, Guadagno.

^^^^^^^^^^^^

Makes a hell of a lot more sense than running for governor against a popular Republican incumbent.

Lautenberg is one of the few people in Congress who really, truly understands our need for transportation infrastructure investment, especially rail (which is utterly essential in a dense state like NJ).

He is a national treasure, and will hopefully continue to serve proudly for decades to come.

Why do people want Booker to challenge Lautenberg? Just for personal ambition? That's really low.

Lautenberg and Booker actually have very similar approvals/favorables with Democrats (63/18 vs. 62/15). The difference is that by a 36/45 margin, they think its time for Lautenberg to retire.

Lautenberg probably won't be able to serve another term and I think he knows that. It's time for Booker.

even though Lautenberg is way too old to be a senator, I've always liked his political style. I liked his speech where he said "pro-lifers don't deserve rights but we'll give it to them anyways". A lot of fiestyness for someone his age.

Lautenberg found retirement hell and doesn't want to do it again. Unless he's too ill by filing day, he'll run again.

Correct. However, the possibility that he will be too ill by filing day remains (remember Pete Domenici's plans to run for reelection in 2008?)

Considering the polling, it is safe to say that if Cory Booker does want to move on from being Newark mayor, it will be to the Senate, not the Governor's mansion.

I hope the party will push Senator Lautenberg to step aside, and not run for re-election in 2014. I don't have much optimism that he will survive another term given his advanced age and the fact he barely survived his bout with cancer.  New Jersey deserves a younger, more energetic senator, not someone who will spend at least half of his remaining years in a hospital.

Lautenberg is too old to be an effective Senator. Yes, there is age beyond which you really aren't effective at the job any more, and Lautenberg has been past that age for a while. I like Lautenberg, and I wish he wouldn't cling to his job when he's no longer the very capable legislator he once was. Graceful exits shouldn't have to be forced.
