More from Carinthia today:

Meanwhile, the Far-Right in Carinthia is in total turmoil once again after their brutal defeat:

One month ago, the FPK was the "Governor Party" and got 45% in the last election in 2009.

Now, they are reduced to 6 seats in the state parliament and former Gov. Gerhard Dörfler, Harald Dobernig and Hannes Anton are now insisting that they take their seats in the state parliament, despite the fact that Austrian FPÖ-leader Strache and the new FPK-leader Ragger have demanded from them that they refuse to take their seats, so that new "fresh" people can take them. For a renewal of the state party. But Strache and Ragger totally miscalculated and the 3 are now "wild" MPs. Which further means that the FPK will be unable to form a state parliamentary club, for which at least 4 members are needed. Which further means that the FPK will lose all their club financing of about 1.2 million € and which further means their public party financing will be cut as well. Also, the FPK will lose their right to send one of their 3 members to investigation committees and they will lose their right for club meeting rooms.

Quite the steep fall for the Far-Right in Carinthia.

FPÖ-leader Strache is already foaming and wants the situation solved. Of course, because he doesn't need more of this Carinthian bitch-fight a few months ahead of the Sept. federal elections. An epically low result in Carinthia and the Team Stronach could kill his ambitions in the fall and then the sh**t is really on fire for the FPÖ. Could it even be that Strache could fall as party leader after the September elections ?

http://derstandard.at/r1922/Kaernten

The Carinthia-FPK's "Fukushima" or "Chernobyl" continues:

It is now possible that the once dominant "Freedomites" ("Drittes Lager") under Jörg Haider will now be splintered into 4 groups:

* The FPK (which split from the BZÖ in 2009 and became a CSU-like party in cooperation with the FPÖ).

* The FPÖ (which still exists in Carinthia for legal reasons and could now be re-activated by Strache if the troubles continue and the FPK remains as "own" party)

* The BZÖ (under Josef Bucher)

* The newly formed "Team Dörfler" (which does not exist yet, but former FPK-Governor Gerhard Dörfler and a couple others have threatened to create this party, because of the recent pressure from Austrian FPÖ-leader Strache and the new FPK-leader Ragger to step down as state MP's, but the 3 renegades refused. Strache and Ragger want a "fresh start" with "new faces", so Dörfler and the 2 others are not welcome for them anymore.)

Wink

...

Today it was announced that after long talks with the new FPK-leader Ragger, Dörfler has finally accepted to step down as state MP and that he will change into the Bundesrat (the upper chamber of the Austrian parliament).

Also, the 2nd renegade - Harald Dobernig - has also accepted to step down.

This means that the FOK gets the club status back in the Carinthia state parliament and all its benefits and party funding, because they now have at least 5 of the 6 MPs again. Hannes Anton, the 3rd FPK renegade will remain as "wild" MP.

I guess this means that the "Team Dörfler" is dead and the re-activation of the Carinthia-FPÖ as well.

http://derstandard.at/1363706034536/Doerfler-soll-in-den-Bundesrat-wechseln

http://derstandard.at/1363705982259/Dobernig-verzichtet-FPK-Klubstatus-gerettet

Even more news:

It looks like Strache and Ragger have now rectified their "tricky situation" in Carinthia and they are now pushing the "re-unification" of FPK and FPÖ again ahead of the Austrian parliamentary elections on Sept. 29, via a "re-unification party convention", at which the FPK will be merged with the Carinthia-FPÖ and the new name will be "FPÖ". It will then be a state chapter of the federal FPÖ again.

It's official:

Carinthia now has a SPÖ-ÖVP-Green government. The coalition agreement was signed a few hours ago in Klagenfurt. The new coalition will be sworn in on Thursday, when the newly elected state parliament meets for the first time. In this first session, Peter Kaiser (SPÖ) will be elected the new Governor and the 7 members of the state government (3x SPÖ, 1x ÖVP, 1x Greens, 1x FPK and 1x Team Stronach) will be sworn in as well.

The next week will be important for the Salzburg state election:

* On Wednesday, the state election commission will release which parties have qualified and in how many of the 6 districts they are running

* From Monday to Friday, the so called "period for objection" takes place, in which the preliminary list of eligible voters that was compiled on Feb. 21 can be reviewed by every eligible voter in their town hall to see if they are in the voter list or not. On Friday, the last day, the voter list will be finalized and all Austrian citizens who live in Salzburg and who are 16+ on May 5 will be eligible to vote. The exact number should be known on Friday, the 29th. But it will be around 389.000 to 390.000 Unlike in federal elections, Austrians Abroad who lived in Salzburg before, are not eligible to vote.

http://www.salzburg.gv.at/themen/se/salzburg/wahlen_sicherheit/landtagswahl2013.htm

The 1pm deadline has passed and the qualified lists are:

* SPÖ (statewide)
* ÖVP (statewide)
* FPÖ (statewide)
* Greens (statewide)
* Team Stronach (statewide)

* Pirate Party (in 3 of 6 districts: Salzburg City, Salzburg-Umgebung, Pinzgau -> Pinzgau with my help, because I signed a petition for them ... Smiley It's also strange that they didn't make the ballot in the Tennengau, which is close to Salzburg City and therefore usually urban Pirate-area)

* KPÖ (in 1 of 6 districts: Salzburg-City)

This is actually the first time in over 20 years that the Communists run again in a Salzburg state election.

But they only run in Salzburg City.

The last time the KPÖ ran for something here was in 2009 for the Salzburg City council.

They got 2.1%

Assuming they get 3-5% this time in the City, because of pissed-off SPÖ voters, then it could get 0.5 to 1% statewide on May 5, because the City vote accounts for roughly 1/5 of the state vote.

I wonder how many votes he will get.

The SPÖ-ÖVP-Green coalition has 24 of 36 seats.

It was a secret vote and nobody has declared publicly how they voted, so we won't know.

It's even possible that some FPK representatives voted for him, because half their delegation is new.

The opening times and addresses for all Salzburg precincts have now been posted on the state government website. Voting starts at 7am and ends at 5pm.

http://www.salzburg.gv.at/themen/se/salzburg/wahlen_sicherheit/landtagswahl2013/wahl13_wo-wann.htm

Later today, the number of eligible voters will be released.

I've already requested my absentee ballot as well, which will be delivered by Mid-April after all the lists are finalized and the ballots are printed.

Don't ask me why, but the newspaper "Tiroler Tageszeitung" today released a poll of the district Reutte, the home district of Anna Hosp who was previously a well-known and popular ÖVP-politician but is now one of the frontrunners for VT (Vorwärts Tirol):

The results are quite shocking:

37.5% VT (did not run in 2008)
28.6% ÖVP (-27.2%)
12.4% SPÖ (+2.4%)
  8.9% Greens (+2.2%)
  3.7% TS (did not run in 2008)
  3.1% FPÖ (-4.4%)
  2.7% FRITZ (-14.3%)
  1.9% BKT (did not run in 2008)
  0.8% FT-PDM (did not run in 2008)
  0.4% KPÖ (-0.7%)

The Pirates are not on the ballot in Reutte.

The CPÖ got 1.9% in 2008, but is not running this year.

http://wahlen.tirol.gv.at/landtagswahl_2008/bezirke/reutte.html

http://www.tt.com/Nachrichten/6356483-2/politisches-erdbeben-k%C3%BCndigt-sich-an.csp

...

These results would indicate a massive VT result on April 28. Maybe only in Reutte, but I think the ÖVP should be really worried in ALL of Tyrol considering this poll result.

Other good news from Carinthia, after all the far-right FPK/FPÖ crap:

New Carinthian Governor First to Use Slovenian at Inauguration

Addressing the maiden session of the provincial parliament in Klagenfurt on Thursday, Peter Kaiser was the first Carinthian governor in the post-WWII history of the provincial parliament to use the Slovenian language in the inauguration speech.

Kaiser said the equality and harmony of Slovenian- and German-speaking Carinthians would be respected and furthered.

According to the Slovenian service of the Austrian radio ORF, the new governor promised the fostering of the diversity in language and culture in the name of the coalition of Social Democrats (SPÖ), the People's Party (ÖVP) and the Greens.

Kaiser's SPÖ won the 3 March provincial election, ending the long reign of the far-right Carinthian Freedom Party (FPK), the victory hailed by the Slovenian minority in Austria.

The new governor has shown in the past to be much more friendly to the Slovenian minority and is even reported to have enrolled his children in a bilingual school.

It's the ÖVP, only with a more local local name.
ÖVP= Austrian People's Party.
Tiroler VP: Tiroler People's Party.

Yeah, exactly.

and why do they seemingly appeal to nobody.

Because they have many idiotic positions on the issues.
