The Siena poll had Spitzer topping Pataki in a hypothetical gubernatorial race, 51 percent to 35 percent. Other recent independent polls have had similar results. Giuliani is ahead of Spitzer, 49 percent to 40 percent.

In possible Senate races, Clinton tops Pataki 58 percent to 32 percent, and is ahead of Giuliani 52 percent to 43 percent.

Pataki's lucky to have made it this far.

I'm very surprised by the Rudy v. Hillary numbers.

His convention speech hurt him. A lot.

Hillary isn't going to lose, believe me.

Good. I'd like to see Pataki in the GOP primary, and if he loses for governor he's done for.

I knew Hillary was safe.
Spitzer still has a fair amount of people who haven't heard of him, he's looking pretty good.

Pataki's political career is over in 2006. Period, end of story. The worthless sh**thead is finished, and will never hold political office again for the rest of his worthless existance. Good riddance.

Looks like I can say the same for Mark Dayton! Smiley

Looks like Antifa needs some court ordered anger management courses.   How is it that a Minnesotan has such anger towards the Gov of a far off state like New York?

Rudy isn't in too bad of a position.  Almost 50% of the state is willing to vote for him as Gov, and he falls just nine points behind a very high profile Senator, Mrs Clinton.  Given that Dems outnumber the GOP in voter registration by 2-1, he's in pretty good shape, certainly within striking distance.   Keep in mind, he won NYC twice, and that's a city with a Dem voter edge of nearly 5-1.

pataki was in trouble long before the convention speech.  From pretty much shortly into this term, it was obvious this was going to be his last

that alone pissed me off but the cheap shots he made were lame as hell. Didn't piss me off as much as Guiliani's though. Probably the only one that pissed me off more than his was Zell Miller's.

Well, I'll give you credit for listening to his speech.  I found him terribly boring and tuned him out.

Rudy's speech was pretty good, though he will never be the GOP nominee.

Zell's speech was a hoot!  Hell, it was supposed to be a redmeat speech.  As I recall, Al Sharpton gave a little redmeat speech of his own.

However, none were more vile than Jesse Jackson's '92 speech in which he compared Dan Quayle to King Herrod, and linked him to the murder of children--much to the delight of the '92 convention crowd.  Oh well, that's politics!

Zell's speech in 1992 was great.  He tore George H.W. apart.  Then he went to Washington and lost it.

since Pataki now seems extremely unlikely to win the Republican nomination for president, it would be interesting to see what office he would run for......

NEWS ANALYSIS
Pataki Takes His Lumps, From the Right
By MICHAEL COOPER

Published: February 12, 2005

ALBANY, Feb. 11 - As Gov. George E. Pataki tests the waters for a foray into national politics, he is finding out just how cold and forbidding they can be for a moderate Republican from the Northeast midway through a rocky third term in office.

If Mr. Pataki was initially a darling of the national Republican Party a decade ago when he defeated Gov. Mario M. Cuomo, the liberal giant, some conservatives are now expressing deep distrust as they survey his 10 years in office and the decisions and spending increases that helped him win re-election three times in a state with a strong liberal leaning.

Last fall, William F. Buckley Jr., one of the elder statesmen of American conservatism, dismissed Mr. Pataki in an interview in The New Yorker as "epicene," or sexless. In December, the Manchester Union Leader - an influential voice for Republicans in New Hampshire, which holds that famous first presidential primary - carried a column that began with the words: "As 2008 rapidly approaches, it's not too early to rule New York Gov. George Elmer Pataki unfit for the G.O.P. presidential nomination."
