Well can you think of a rational reason as to why this was allowed to happen?

Our constitution and the cowardice of politicians and their unwillingness to stand up to people like Youth Defense.

Well I meant no insult, so accept my apology if I offended. In fact, there's a lot America just out of the 15th century!

See, in many cases Europe is put up as kind of a secular bastion by some of our own secular voices in the USA, and frankly, it now seems that I learn things like this about Europe on almost a weekly basis, and it contradicts what many secular voices here say. Of course, I think the secular voices here cherry pick as well their examples.

I think you offend the 15th Century somewhat.
