Obama:

AK - no Palin
LA - blacks, Katrina/Sandy
NJ - Sandy
MS - blacks
NY - Sandy
RI - pro-incumbent history

Romney:

UT - Mormons
WV - Coal
IN - Obama overperformance in 2008
MT - Obama overperformance in 2008
ND - Obama overperformance in 2008
SD - anti-incumbent history

any other reasons...

I say this..it was pretty much a status quo election with the economy hurting the democrats' performance, which was down from 2008, but the GOP brand is just a miserable brand right now.

Rhode Island is also just pretty inelastically Democratic in federal elections these days.

Regardless of Sandy NJ also seems to have a pro incumbent Prez trend.
