Martin Sheen would have a good shot at beating Arnold.  Other than that I really cant think of anyone who would come close.

Sheen would get Crushed, the only person that could beat him would be some popular Actor with no Political history, Like Will Smith or Brad Pitt.

Why?

Staate Treasurer Phil Angelides will run.  His platform will be that Arnold hasn't fixed the budget.  Even though this is basically true, Arnold will win in a walk anyway because he's Arnold, and who the hell is Phil Angelides anyway?

Take it from a Californian.  Arnold's popularity is going down.

He promised reform, but his hot issues are going against teachers and nurses.  His biggest issue?  Having retired judges work on redistricting maps instead of the legislature.  There's a hot button issue that will unite voters.  Wink

He will probably win in '06, but not enough to propel him beyond that if the Constitution is ever changed.

I am also a Californian, and I say its no big deal to go from 70% approve to 66% approve.

The redisctricting thind is quite popular, as are all the various campaign reform measures around the country.  Fighting corruption is popular.

from what i know, the Gropernator is calling for the power to redraw all legislative (and may be congressional as well) districts to be taken out of the hands of the political parties, and given instead to non-partisan judges -the object is to reduce Democratic representation in the House of Representatives even more than it already is (you'll love that), and to reduce their majorities in the state legislature so he can have a more malleable General Assembly to deal with and pass his agenda.

if anyone has more information, you can correct me where i am wrong.......

The real purpose is to change from legislators in safe districts to competitive districts, so they will be more responsive to public opinion and not special interests.  This, along with open primaries, are Schwarzenegger's two pronged attack on the very extreme two parties in CA.  The CA Dems and Reps are very extreme, and more moderate primary winners and competitive districts change that.

Scharzenneger is still in his honey-moon phase, he hasn't had to do anything difficult yet.

A sacrificial lamb, though I can't stand Arnold and would love to see him lose. I would have much rather had Bustamante or even Tom McClintock win over him in the recall.
