$11 in NYC? This would top all your bad decisions. Tongue

$11 in NYC? This would top all your bad decisions. Tongue

That's what I'm thinking.  I'll talk to the recruiter and if it is indeed $11.04, then I will politely say "thanks, but no thanks."  What ever job I get will have to pay more than $12.00 an hour.  As much as it would be nice to work at an Airport, I will not take a pay cut doing so, especially taking a dollar pay cut magnified by moving to the one of the biggest cities in the world and one of the biggest airports in the country.

I am well aware that $11.00 an hour in New York City when I'm struggling with $12.00 in Salt Lake City is akin to economic suicide.

Bushie, what would this pay??  You do realize NYC or anything commutable?

It wouldn't pay a whole lot.  I think it said $11.04.  There are other airports around the country.  The pay is the only thing I'm concerned about.  I'll find out more when I talk to the recruiter.  I hope I read it wrong...

Does traffic concern you at all?  Where would you live??

I am not buying his story. It sounds too much like his past lies - i.e. bizarre decisions and then strange arguments to support them. "I would ask for my ring back, but I am sure she will call me tonight as she said she would!" type deal. Or the weight loss episodes.

I hope I am wrong, but I am nearly certain he was let go, otherwise he'd be a fool to turn down employment because he wanted to "wait and see what xerox is going to do."

Why even interview then? Smells way too fishy for me.

Exactly... something's not adding up here.  Something is missing from the story he's telling us.

If Bushie does move to NYC, this may require a pretty major Atlas meet-up.

What can someone afford with $11/h in New York City? A cardboard box?

FYI, 11 bucks in Queens is like making 6 bucks an hour. You couldn't afford it, and you couldn't deal with the people. They would eat you alive.

Meeting Bushie in person would be a dream come true! I'd print out one of the old Update threads and have him sign it.

He could afford it if, rather than rent his own apartment, every NYC area Atlasian agreed to host Bushie on an intermittent basis....say one week at a time, and then alternate to the next person on the list.  It would be Update's own spinoff reality show.

As much as it would be nice to work at an Airport....
Everybody is different, but you think it would be nice to work at LaGuardia airport? Have you been to a major airport like O'hare, Hartsfield, etc? "Nice" is the exact opposite of how I would describe them. LaGuardia is not quite as bad but
My personal most hated airport is JFK. Huge. Busy. Loud. Full of smelly foreigners who don't get the personal space thing and rude pushy New Yorkers. Forget Dante's 9th circle of hell. Send the treacherous to JFK.

I've been in O'Hare, Hartsfield-Jackson, DFW, Logan, and Sky-Harbor (if you count PHX as a major airport).  I know how mixed up they can be.

LGA isn't horrible. Of course, I don't mind New Yorkers so maybe it's just me. But he could afford to live even in Jackson Heights on $11 an hour. Given he's from Oklahoma, I doubt he'll be happy living in an ethnic neighborhood in queens.

I would prefer to work at Salt Lake City Airport.  Its a big enough Airport, and I wouldn't have to up and move.

I certainly think that airport work is a much better idea for you than another call center.

I definitely agree, but I also don't want to take a pay cut in doing so.

It could be a more stable job though. Think about that. Right now you're making $12/hour but you aren't even working full weeks and will probably me laid off once again any day now.

As fun as this sounds, it's pretty ludicrous to move cross-country for a job that pays $11 an hour, don't you think?

Surely there is an airport in Salt Lake City? Or Oklahoma?

^^^^^^^
Just the move will cost at least $500. And that'd be with no flights or help moving. Just gas in the car and a few nights hotel along the way. But he does seem to tolerate airports better than most people.  Maybe being "special" could come in handy for a change. And suspending financial disbelief is key to enjoying the update.

Considering its New York, it would have to be a whole lot more than that.
