Oh, and today at work, I've started drinking more water.  I drank 40 oz. of water today and only 20 oz of soda while at work.  I know 40 oz (5 glasses) is not the 6-8 glasses of water I should be at, but its roughly about 4 1/2 glasses (36 oz) more than I would have in an average day.

Read this on diet soda....keep up the water.

There's nothing within the diet soda that is actually fattening. The reason we see correlation of weight maintainance/gain with diet soda is this- that people choose to eat fattening foods when drinking it- i.e. the "Coke Zero and Big Mac diet". Aspartame isn't the cause. Sucralose isn't the cause. Silly dieting choices are. Diet soda isn't health food, but it isn't what's making Bushie fat.

But again, I'd recommend more seltzer.

I find that drinking water makes me feel more full, versus any kind of soda. That's why I've stopped drinking it.

Good Wednesday Afternoon.  The day went well.  My friend, who I helped with his car battery on December 29 is taking me out to eat at 4:00.  We're going to Sizzler's Steak House.  I went there with Mom back in early October, so it will be nice to go back.  I'm looking forward to nice, juicy steak!

Steak? Good choice. If you're eating unhealthy food, best it be good unhealthy food, at least. And I've found it's very hard to mess up steak.

Not exactly, he's just paying me back from spending 2-3 hours helping him with his car battery and taking him to get a new battery.

Ha, its the time he chose based on our work schedules.  We are both early morning workers.

Anyway, dinner was great.  We spent two hours eating and chatting.  That guy can pack away the food!  He ate for over 90 minutes straight!!  I ate too much myself, but I only ate for maybe 30 minutes.  I'll likely gain a bit by morning, but I can't really complain about free food!

He had two full plates from the salad bar, a 6 oz. ranch cut steak, a big bowl of cole slaw, a roll, 2 slices of cheese toast, plus dessert.  On top of that he is a VERY slow eater.  Plus, we were talking all during the meal so that slowed us down...

I just had one medium sized plate from the salad bar, a 6 oz. ranch cut steak, a baked potato, 1 roll, 1 slice of cheese toast, and 2 small bowls of vanilla ice cream.  I'm a fast eater, though.  Always have been.

I bet there's a very high correlation between the number of salad bars at regular restaurants (i.e. those that don't focus solely on salads) per capita and the percentage voting Republican. Salad bars in restaurants is a very red state phenomenon.

I always load up at the salad bar when I'm out to eat, as well as on the rolls. That way I can buy a cheaper item from the menu as I won't be as hungry. Wink

One would have thought that there would have been an inverse correlation. Or do liberals prefer to eat a lot of plated salad?

Liberals don't eat salad anymore, Simfan.. what do you think this is... the 1980s?  Salads are out.  Asian fusion is in.

Is Michigan considered a red state?

Well I've seen a pretty good amount of salad bars at restaurants in Michigan.

Maybe it's a rural or "middle America" thing? I don't know. But having lived in three liberal, urban cities in my life, finding self-serve salad bars in restaurants has been a rarity. I find that they're much more common when I'm visiting other places.

Liberals prefer to pay people to make their salads for them, I think. Example

Can't think of anywhere that has a salad bar here. Well, the Indian buffet I frequent has a little bit of salad that I skip every time. I'm always much more focused on the Palak Paneer. When I was a kid, my mom would frequently take me to Shoney's and they had a large salad bar with access included with any dinner. Trouble was all the ingrediants had a way of running together and making a mess. But it was a nice way for a kid to keep himself occupied during the insufferable 15 minute wait before the food arrives. Most of the Shoneys have closed but the one we used to go to is still there, though that neighborhood has not aged well. Not terrible, just gritty. I may have to go back one day just for the nostalgia. I even got a teddy bear from there once. Bet it hasn't changed a bit.

I refuse to eat from a salad bar or buffet anymore. People pick at stuff, and their germs and funk get all over it. Ugh, that's just to gross for me. I know those things are possible when someone in the kitchen prepares anything for me, but at least I cant see it.

Hmm. Only time I've seen a salad bar in the city is in the tourist restaurants.

But I would have thought liberals like to make their own salad,  parlaying for parsley washed with water filtered from a mandala from Mandalay and so forth.

Ruby Tuesdays had a salad bar IIRC. Everything on it was grimy and picked over.

Was the ice cream located on the salad bar like a cheap chinese buffet!? Cheesy
