The reason I don't think the 6 pounds is water weight, is I've been down this road before.  When I started losing the 25 pounds 13 months ago, I went down pretty rapidly, and I believe I had lost 6-7 pounds in the first week.  Some of it could be water weight, but I think a good portion of it is legitimate weight loss.  The 2 pound weight gain this morning could be either water weight or legitimate weight game.

Calories matter. The 3,500 per pound are not just an estimate.

Most days this past week, I stuck with the 2,400-2,600 vicinity (hence, the weight loss).  Yesterday, I know I probably came closer to 4,000 if not a little more.  I had a big breakfast and a big dinner yesterday.  My weight maintenance is 3,240 according to Inks formula, and I probably exceeded that by at least 750, if not 1,000 yesterday.

Then it's impossible that you gained 2 pounds of fat overnight. Just as it's impossible you lost 6 pounds of fat...

These are just basic nuttitional facts.

Whatever it is, I just know the scales show 4 pounds less than what they did 8 days ago.

Stop being lazy and do this work yourself: You can add up your activity on a site like this:

http://www.caloriesperhour.com/

Shockingly you can also use the computer to google things to find how many calories are in what you eat. They even have it printed on the side of what you buy these days.  You can then use a thing called addition to add it all up...
There are hundreds or thousands of sites with this on there.

Bushie...this isn't that difficult to understand. The scale isn't showing you legitimate fat loss.

3,500 calories = 1 pound.

In other words, if you have a 500 calorie deficit per day for 1 week...you lose ONE (1) pound of fat. Why? 7*500 = 3500 !

Likewise, having a 1000 calorie surplus does NOT correspond to an actual 2 pound gain.

That might be true, but from a health perspective it doesn't mean anything if your body fat level didn't change.

I ended today right around 2,300-2,400 calories, so we'll see how tomorrow morning turns out.

More importantly... STOP WEIGHING YOURSELF!

Just do the right thing, increase activity, reduce caloric intake, increase your water intake... and use a tape measure instead. Weight is something that can fluctuate wildly in a day... but every 3/4 days, as soon as you get up, measure your chest, arms (at bicep level), waist (at the navel) and thighs (about half way up). If you're doing the right thing, you should start to see the numbers changing positively in about 2 weeks.

Final total for the day.  I ended in the 2,500-2,600 calorie range.  I had a bowl of Malt-O-Meal for a late evening snack (worth roughly 200 calories).

How are you getting your calories that precise?  Are you really measuring everything out?

To be fair, this seems like exactly the sort of thing Bushie's designed to be good at.

Today, Monday, December 3, 2012, begins my fourth month away from home.  I left Oklahoma at 4:00 am CST on Monday, September 3, 2012.  This has been a really good experience.  I've only had that one bout of homesickness that was on the first page or two of this thread back in mid to late October.  I've got a good job now.  It is a call center, but it is making me money and it is only 1.25 miles from my apartment.  I'm getting to the point that I can call Utah home.  I will be making one more trip home for a brief Christmas vacation December 22-25, but my next trip to Oklahoma probably won't be until at least late May or June.

With your job so close, you should walk or bike to work.

I think I know what the answer to this will be.

You never had to in the fi-- oh forget it.

Yes, that's great news, Bushie.  Truly the Lord has blessed you with a fine employment situation this time.

Nice!

It doesn't pay the greatest, but when you are able to go 12 days between fill ups and that just from a half tank, it sure saves on money.  If I can fill up 3 times a month as opposed to 5-6 times with each tank being ~$25, that is anywhere between $50-$75 a month that I save, which can definitely add up.

Indeed.  1.25 miles is nothing.  Ideally, Bushie should either be walking or biking to and from work every day that the weather doesn't preclude it.  Or at the very least, if it's on a bus route, walk one way and take the bus back the other way or vice versa.

I'll likely be to my Kenyan home for a visit in March or possibly June/July.  As far as moving there, that looks like 2017.

I agree it is, and I probably wouldn't spring for Kenya in 2013, but since that generous donor paid $2400 last May so I could go again, I feel obligated to take them up on the offer and go.
