And once again, calories are important....but you need a lifestyle change. Parking at the back of the parking lot to get exercise is some of the biggest bulls**t I've ever read

So give yourself some incentives.  If you don't reach 200 pounds by [DATE], you have to / can't do [X].

Or homemade pizza - I made a wicked artichoke and asparagus pizza.

However awful you may be, Mr Inks, at least you have great taste.

I believe we already played this game with mod review. Losing weight is obviously outside of his capacity. Getting all puritanical about self-control doesn't help. The man needs amphetamines.

I've decided to make today day 1.  I will check in with the forum every day with my current weight and with what I ate that day.  There is no sense in waiting until even December to get started.  I don't want a reward/punishment on the other end, other than that which comes by feeling better or feeling worse.  I know you guys are here for me and will post what I need to hear.  I will have my starting weight within 30 minutes.

No sense blaming Bushie. The stats on recovering from obesity are abysmal. It's so rare for a fat to acheive a healthy weight that the few who acheive it get to be on the covers of magazines. Obesity is a brain disorder in which the hunger drive is much greater than what is healthy. We're dealing with a psychiatric issue. And a devastating one at that.

My starting weight is 270.2.  Higher than I thought, and all the more reason to get started today.

One thing I would personally suggest. Don't weigh yourself daily. There's a good deal of fluctuation in a matter of hours depending on when your last meal was....how much water you've had to drink....etc.

Generally speaking, a healthy rate of calorie reduction is to consume between 500 and 1,000 fewer calories than you require for weight maintenance. If you're extremely obese, then it's probably good to aim for the 1,000.

If done consistently, this will equal about a 2 pound loss per week. And perhaps weighing yourself once weekly, like every Sunday after you get out of bed, for example, is likely a better indicator of your success (or lack thereof).

Good luck.

Thanks for the tips.  I'll keep them in mind as I go along in this journey.

Bushie, you should also go for walks for about an hour a day.  It's not hard and will be good exercise.  If you have an iPod, music also makes it go by faster.

I'll keep that in mind.  I don't have an iPod, but I can still go for walks.

"Keeping it in mind" won't help if you don't actually do some physical activity.

Agreed.  With that in mind, I'll be going for a small walk later this afternoon after it gets a bit warmer outside.

I think what I'm going to do as far as exercise goes is walk around my apartment complex for about 45 minutes every other day.  This means one week I'll walk 4 times, the next week 3 times, after that 4 times, and so on.  I want to start gradually.  After the Bedlam football game this afternoon (Oklahoma State vs. Oklahoma), and after I finish with my laundry, I will get out and walk for about 45 minutes.  I'll walk again Monday after I get home from work, and so on.

One alternative, of course, is to drop the pretence entirely. You are, officially at least, an adult. You can set your own priorities, if you want to. So long as you're aware of whatever any consequences might be and are prepared to live with them, your life is yours to lead. This absurdist halfway house does you no good, if it's even a slight reflection of your actual reality.

Why does everybody assume the losing weight and keeping it off is something that is within Bushie's capabilities? If it were, he would have done so long ago.  Perhaps he should will himself into the NBA while he's at it.

We have been seeing it for several years already. You can't will yourself out of a psychiatric condition. At best, you could move to an urban neighborhood where walking is more convenient than driving.

Don't make me repeat myself again.

Has something bad being less convenient ever stopped Bushie?

I know I have several doubters on here, based on my history, but I'm looking forward to what this new diet will do for me.

King, I will eventually work up to 1 hour every day, but I've got to start somewhere and walking 45 minutes every other day will be a lot better than sitting on my bottom all day every day.

If you can make it 45 minutes, 60 minutes is easy.

Bushie, you should try my Insanity workout

No way you can handle that, so in all seriousness, go for the walks for 45 mins to an hour a day, and keep at it.  Perhaps mix in some working out with dumbbells or jogging through a portion of the walk (starting off slow)
