Today, Monday, December 3, 2012, begins my fourth month away from home.  I left Oklahoma at 4:00 am CST on Monday, September 3, 2012.  This has been a really good experience.  I've only had that one bout of homesickness that was on the first page or two of this thread back in mid to late October.  I've got a good job now.  It is a call center, but it is making me money and it is only 1.25 miles from my apartment.  I'm getting to the point that I can call Utah home.  I will be making one more trip home for a brief Christmas vacation December 22-25, but my next trip to Oklahoma probably won't be until at least late May or June.

What about your other home, Kenya?

My career in Kenya is becoming a bit clearer.  I now have an idea of how I will work and support myself without becoming another mouth to feed.  I will work directly with the Maisha International Orphanage and live in their volunteer home that will be built in 2015.  I will be financially supported mainly through stipends from Maisha and grants through various sources.  Like I said, it will be at least 4 years before I leave, probably closer to 4 1/2 - 5 years.  I want to be down there by January 1, 2018.
What will you be doing in Kenya specifically? I very much admire your good intentions, but I don't understand how you hope to be of service. Do you know anything about international development?

I will be in the Administration of the Orphanage.  I will be coordinating sponsorships for the children from American and European homes, I will be coordinating mission trips with American churches who come down for a week or however long, and I will be coordinating those who choose to come alone.  Currently, on the ground at Maisha there are only 3 men overseeing 450 orphans and 150 widows.  One of the men is going to University, so he's only part time. As you can see 2 1/2 men overseeing 600 people plus ministering to those in the slums is quite a daunting task.
So you essentially want to work in their call center?

They have no call center.
Right, but you want to do call center sort of things. Seems like it's a telephone sort of job. Seems like you could do any of it via skype from anywhere in the world.

Ahem, memphis, get the f[inks] with it....his kids are in Kenya.  That is all. Tongue

Did you use organic, locally-sourced ground beef?

I reserve airport parking so my car can be under security surveillance while I'm gone.

SMH.

Do you honestly expect Bushie to leave something as mundane as a parked car up to chance?

Which car do you think is closer to Bushies?

1)

or

2)

#2 is a luxury car in Oklahoma.

So 2 is 1?  Ok.  Security it is, then.

Well, I don't have to worry about driving.  The roads are bone dry.  All the snow stayed south of us.  Sad

I can't figure out the frown smiley.  WTF you hate driving in snow and you'll take 2 days off work to get to the airport 2 days ahead of time if it does snow?  Are you a masochist?

Welp, my work schedule is changing.  Starting tomorrow, I will be working 6:00-14:30 instead of 8:00-16:30.  This is in preparation for the New Year.

You won't be there to work it.....you're going to OK.....and probably that trip will cost you your job.

So, immediately when Santa leaves his presents, my phone and my tablet will be preparing for Christmas 2013!!

Should we tell him?
I doubt he can take it with his state of mind.

He wouldn't  believe it anyway.

Going to the airport 12 hours before your flight is pure insanity.  That is all.

Since I have been having quite a few stomach cramps the past three days, I am going to be proactive and go to the Urgent Care right after work today and try to get something to make me feel better and enjoy my Christmas Weekend.  There's probably nothing serious and it will probably have to just run its course, but I want to make absolutely sure there is nothing going on.

Here's a helpful tip

The typical 2.  My flight leaves Tuesday at 11:15 and I want to be there by 9:15.  We'll leave their house at 8:45.

So on one of the busiest travel days you'll get their 2 hours early, but on this day, you're going for 9 hours?

I am on vacation and it is Christmas, so I'm not even thinking about a diet, and don't ANYONE criticize me for that.

We won't because you don't think about it at any other time, why change now?

Whether more people agree with me or you is entirely irrelevant. My point (really, Oakvale's point) is that if you're thinking of a diet as "torture" then you've already lost.

Plus he's not serious the other 51 weeks either.

So, I am officially a doofus.  I get to the Airport only to find out that I cannot go through security until 4:00 am.   The policy is different between airlines.  Southwest let me go through security in November the prior evening.  US Airways doesn't allow previous day check-ins.  So, I am on the front side of security until 0400.

Next time act like a normal human and get there 2 hours ahead......LOL@going with jamespol.  Bad idea.

I will be perfectly honest, when Dad said I'm sleeping in a hotel, I lol'd myself...  It was not my idea.  I couldnt say anything because he's driving.

You come by it honestly.

Dude why are you calling voluntary time-off when they're telling  you to leave early?  And why aren't you working every overtime minute possible?  $$$, you see.

They call it VTO.  They needed volunteers to go home, and I went home.  I'll be working quite a bit of overtime in January, but I refuse to cut into my weekend!

What, you're social life is so crucial you'll pass up on much needed money for bills?  Roll Eyes

Some very blunt foreshadowing here. We're due for some permanent involuntary time off very soon.
