They need to shoot whoever redesigned the AP website.

Sad for George, but 90 years was a good long life.

As for remaining nominees, George HW Bush and Jimmy Carter are both 88 and I wouldn't be surprised if it at least one of them made it to 100.  If so, a President's 100th Birthday should definitely be an event as it would be a first.

Terribly sad.  I don't necessarily agree with him politically, but he stood by his convictions.  Hopefully he recovers.

Oh God this hit me when I first read it (initially on another forum.) Such a great man and one of the best Freedom Fighters of the modern era. Prayers go out, this would be quite a shame. Sad

Too bad, I hope he lives a while longer. He's pretty much the opposite of chickenhawk, and while he lost in a landslide, he can rest knowing he ran an honest campaign, unlike his opponent.

At this point in time, every Democratic nominee in the last 40 years is still alive. The only nominee of either party I can think of who lived longer since their nomination was Landon.

God Bless George McGovern; America is a better country just for having him run for President. While an actual McGovern administration might be way too left wing for my taste, I can say that it would be at least an honest administration, unlike the Nixon administration.

Sad to see him go. He had a wholesome vision of a less interventionist America.  I wish there were more Democrats and Republicans who shared his "a Republic, not an Empire" attitude.

Shame to see this happen.  He was a good man and one of the few honest politicians left.  He will be missed.

Ouch. He outlived Nixon by nearly two decades.

Just wondering, how are Mondale, Dukakis, Dole, Gore, and Kerry doing, heath-wise?

Dukakis is in seemingly pretty good health. He's in his late seventies now and still making occasional public appearances, albeit mostly of the TV talking head variety. Gore and Kerry are as far as I know both fine. Not sure about Mondale or Dole.

What's interesting is how McGovern helped change the DNC rules to give the ordinary voters more power in the primaries, and then McGovern was the first nominee under the new rules.

Sad for George, but 90 years was a good long life.

Considering we all go at some point, it's at least positive that he managed to have such a long life.

How sad.  Best President we never had (of all the ones ever nominated by a major party).  As far as total best Presidents we never had go, he's up there with RFK and Eugene Debs.
