Of course Mitt can recover. It will certainly be difficult, but it's surely possible.

The economy is bad by even the most generous metrics and we are now on the brink of a full blown international crisis. Even a putz like Romney could pull it off in these conditions.

I would certainly rather be a Democrat than a Republican at this moment. Having said that, the candidate with the last convention is almost always winning at this time of the year. The debates could very well even things up even if it's a draw, because it kills the convention buzz.

The problem is, the election isn't this moment.  Smiley

I "can" in a theoretical sense, but in reality earning the electoral votes needed - at this point - is already an uphill battle for him, and this has only hurt him - and I find it very highly unlikely barring some kind of miracle or extreme Obama misstep, which I see as (again) very highly unlikely.

At this point, Mitt Romney would have to be ahead or at least tied with President Obama as shown by the preponderance of polls, or gaining while slightly behind. He is now behind, and he seems to be going behind a little more.

He has had plenty of time in which to get ahead of the President... and he has yet to do so. Nothing says that he will. He needs something freakish to happen in his favor.

Of course he can. Obama looks kind of vulnerable in debates and the economy can always get worse.

Hell no.  He's crapped on anyone even slightly left, Ron Paul and Tea Party grassroots, insulted Hispanics by going on Univision with a fake tan.

Who the hell does he have left except rich, white people?

Of course he can still win. But he's going to have to try harder than he has so far, and he's going to have to do more than wait around for the voting public to decide they don't want another four years of Obama.
I'll be interested to see the debates. Romney mostly performed well in the primary debates, but he had a tendency to get rattled when pushed too hard.
