It seems that the gender gap is widening even more this year; chances are women will vote Democratic by about 10% and men will vote Republican by about 10%. Will this trend continue or reverse in future elections?

I don't think the gender gap will be that wide. Moving from RVs to LVs will probably heavily cut it.

Anyways, I think the gender gap is a result of how the Republicans have historically been stronger on issues more salient to men (national security, etc.), while Democrats have historically been stronger on issues more salient to women (healthcare, education).

I think the gender gap will decrease because the Democrats have become significantly stronger on national security, but have lost a large part of their edge on healthcare (thanks to Obamacare) and are starting to lose it on education.
